Choosy Consumer (no login)
I don't get it.
Everyday I see examples of great products that don't rely on fossil fuels, dry cell batteries, or other harmful chemicals or disposable components. Why are we so set in our ways? Does Sony have a major stake in the major battery companies?
I was on the Modern Outpost site the other day, and they have all kinds of gear like compact folding solar panels, flashlights that don't use batteries, and other appliances that don't use ordinary power. Everyone should have some of this stuff.
The major car manufacturers like Toyota have hybrid vehicles on the road now. Still, the press still can't figure why someone would pay an extra $10,000 for such a vehicle when they will not realize this in gasoline savings over the life of the car. Aren't they missing the point?
There is some really great consumer products out there these days, and we as consumers have more power than we realize. Boardrooms are filled with MBAs trying to figure out what we want. Let's ask for better.
Our choices will determine our future.
Cheers everyone!

"pay an extra $10,000 for such a vehicle when they will not realize this in gasoline savings over the life of the car."
To understand this we would need to incorporate a total cost model. This gives the true monetary value for the vehicle by adding maintenance cost including oil consumption to the initial price.

I cannot wait the day they convert corn oil into a usefull source of engine fuel.
I've noticed one or two of those little hybrid cars putting around my community. Nice and sufficient they are of course, but unfortunately, not my style.
I just stick to my down-to-earth, gas-hauling SUV.
