Just in case anyone hasnt heard..

"CUBA is ending 2005 with an economic growth of 11.8%, a year that qualifies as one of the most fruitful under the Revolution, given that it has marked the start of important transformations in the economy associated with real solutions to the population’s problems and the creation of conditions for consolidating development, stated José Luis Rodríguez, vice president of the Council of Ministers, during a session of Parliament that included the presence of President Fidel Castro."

You forgot to tell something...
Firstly, 11.8 is said be a communist government with propaganda motives. The GDP growth rate of Cuba as said on CIA website is 5.2 (but then this also can be wrong)
Also, they have added the money put into sectors like health and education which in not how standard GDP is calculated(by organizations like UN etc...)
Castro has admitted that major problem is lengthy power cuts(an hallmark of third world countries) and situation needs to be improved

Last year Cuba's economy was indeed approximately 5%, according to their own sources. It might be a little exaggerated but I'd imagine it is fairly accurate, given that Communist countries in previous decades were often able to achieve average growth rates of 7-9% with very little deficit spending. It just shows you how hard people can work if they actually feel theyre receiving a good salary, or at least a more equal one.

Let see--you want me to believe figures from the CIA? Please don't hold your breath. Cuba is the transitional phase--socialism and the most recent figures were the economy grew by 12.5%. Capitalist economist are saying thatn Cuba uses an unusual economic formula, but if the Cuban government is happy with their technique, then who are you to dispute it?

Can "Floyder" perhaps explain to me just which Communist countries he considers to have ever been economically successful, and how this success manifested as life quality for the people actually enslaved under it. Perhaps he'd like to do this by offering a comparison of life for people in, say, Communist Russia (those who survived) and somewhere that utilizes Capitalism, like say America for instance. If he could also back whatever he says up with facts that would be great, thanks.

Communist countries are successful alright, they've successful at killing, torturing and bringing their citizens, sorry, I mean slaves, back to the dark ages.
