Honor where honor is due.

We got the Statue of Liberty from France in 1885 in recognition of the friendship established during the American Revolution. At the time, we celebrated the gift as one of international friendship and is one of the most universal symbols of political freedom and democracy.

However, due to recent events, it is, quite simply, time for the gift to be returned. France has, time and again, shown it's cowardice, and it is now time for America to step up and let the world know that we won't encourage cowardliness, and we won't align ourselves, in any way, with cowards. No more of this silly rubbish of 'Freedom Fries' and 'Freedom Toast' - do something that says 'We mean business!'. It's time to send Lady Libery back to the French.

I know what you're thinking - the Statue of Liberty is an Americon icon. It's been there for generations. You can't do away with something like that over someone else being utterly retarded! Well, yes - you can. And yes, we should. We should put up a statue of someone who really stands for libery, justice, and peace among all. Someone who personifies this great nation we live in. Someone who is a true hero. Someone people can look up to.

My proposal is this - send the Statue of Liberty back to the cowards it came from, and in it's place erect a statue of Ronald Reagan, our 40th president, without whom this country would have fallen to shambles. Ronald Reagan is a TRUE American icon. Ronald Reagan served our great and wonderful country from 1980 to 1988 - without a doubt the best 8 years this country has had.

Even before taking the office of President of the United States, he served as the governor of California, and he served as an entertainer before that. Before he ever graduated from high school, he served as a lifeguard, saving 77 lives in 7 summers. In 1937, Reagan enlisted in the Army Reserve, and was quickly promoted to 2nd lieutenant in the Officers Reserve Corps of the Cavalry. Mr. Reagan's entire life was dedicated to serving others. I think it's high time we honor him for that service.

What, I ask you, have the French done to honor America, to promote our values, to serve us. The answer is easy - nothing. Most recently they have refused to back a well planned, honorable war against the most evil of evils - Iraq. In refusing to back our efforts to topple the throne of Saddam Hussein, they have done nothing short of publicly stating, 'We are huge cowards, and we have no respect for democracy. We have no want to try to help end the rein of terror that has beseiged the world, and we think you, America, should act as a coward as well.'

Well, I have news for you! My America is no coward! MY America praises and uplifts democracy, and seeks to spread this God-given right to all corners of the world. MY America doesn't stand idly by and allow torturous dictators to oppress people. MY America doesn't promote terrorism by failing to address the issue. MY America doesn't turn a blind eye to the death of it's innocents. My America is not a coward.

I feel that we, as a country, as well as private citizen's, need to take a stand against France, and against their allowing terrorism to continue by not trying to stop the terrorists where they start - Iraq. We need to let France know that not only do we not approve of their cowardice, we do not want gifts from them, we do not want their friendship, and we do not want to be associated with them in any way. Send back the statue!

Did you know that France not only supports terrorism, but denounces God? That's right - France is against God. Recently France refused to sign a European Union constitution if it held any references to God or Christianity. If France does not support God, then God does not support France! And if God does not support France, who are we to go against God? We are America. We are God's people. And we denounce those who are against God.

If we must have a statue there - and I think we should - let us erect a statue worthy of praise. We are barred from putting up a statue of the one who truly symbolizes America - God himself. Who better to put in his stead than Mr Reagan, whom God appointed. Mr Reagan led this country through some rough times, and brought us out on the other side. Mr Reagan allowed God to lead him in such a way as was best for America as a whole, as well as it's citizens. He understood the importance of God in our lives, and he allowed God to use his life to better America. It's time we thank both God and Mr Reagan.

Imagine - in years to come, generations to come, we will have a true symbol of friendship. Friendship with God, and friendship with democracy. We don't need a symbol of friendship with cowards. We won't align ourselves with a godless, cowardly, terrorist supporting country.

Ever hear of the second commandment? Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, nothing in the likeness of anythign in heaven, earth, or in the sea.

And besides that, aren't you diehard conservatives the same ones who premote a facist/socialst pass time with the pledge of alligence? Rather hypocritical of you, know?

Let me put it this way, France owes nothing to the United States. If anything, both countries are even. The U.S. may have saved her in the Great Paitriotic War, however, who was it who came to the aide of the American states in the American Revolution?

I'm frankly tired of American "conservatives" preaching against foreign countries and saying they owe the U.S. something. I've lived in this country for quite some time, and I find one of the things wrong with it is the general population tends to be severly arogant.

If you want to be paitriotic, then show some pride in the fact that every time you speak you represent your country. So when you speak, show respect for other nations, cowards or otherwise.

"Who better to put in his stead than Mr Reagan, whom God appointed."

How do you know this?
And "because 'god's people' voted for him" is nowhere near proof.

It is tragic indeed when a person allows sentiment and familiarity of face to obscure the truth behind any man's work.

Mr. Reagan has been glorified in death, as many are, and those who hold him up as an example of excellence have conveniently forgotten the not-so-glorious parts of his presidency.

Financing and supporting the Contras, Mr. Reagan shares in the responsibility for the crimes against humanity perpetrated by them. He called them "freedon fighters" because they agreed with him but they behaved themselves more like evil hearted terrorists when they met with those who did not agree with them.

Yes, Mr. Reagan's hands are just as bloody as those of Mr. Bush, Mr. Clinton and every other tortorous dictatorial president we have had in the last 200 years.

Truly, a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.
