The True Conservative Movement

The Republican party has been increasingly perverted by the neo-conservatives over the past 30-35 years. In fact, there has been a split within the Republican party since the early 20th century. At that time, there was a dominant conservative, populist wing and a budding "traditionalist", nationalist wing. To the common observer the difference in these terms seemed negligiable. The new movement grew indistinguished from the true conservatives. The neo-cons only rose to prominence after the Republican Party allowed the Democrats to siphon off some of their progressive stances in the 1960s and early 1970s. During that time, the Democrats moved towards a more progressive platform on some issues (civil rights) while still pushing even further left of their original agenda on other issues. This gave the Republican party a weakened agenda and opened the door to Democrats winning huge support and elections. In response to the losses, those "traditionalists" or neo-conservatives, spearheaded by religious "conservatives" and racists, aimed their sites on the Republicans, the Grand Old Party (GOP). They were successful in grabbing control of the party and have had a grip on the party ever since. The true conservatives found themselves abandoned.

With Democrats not truly representing the more moderate to conservative fiscal ideals of the true conservatives, this has left us without a home. In fact, this is the primary reason for the rise and semi-success of the Libertarian Party. However, the Libertarians, as their own entity, tend towards more radicalism than the old fashioned Republicans are comfortable with. Neo-conservatives and left-wing Democrats are not the core of the national public opinion. So, this wide plurality of the United States public has been left out in the political system, largely voting for the "lesser of two evils" in every election.

There are true conservatives out there. We are, simply put, Republicans who staunchly defend fiscal responsibilty, military might (speak softly and carry a big #@%$'n stick!), business and new venture promotion, smaller government, privatization (less beuracracey), individual rights and liberties, the equality of all people, and personal responsibilty (less #@%$'n lawsuits and hand-outs). We do this without forcing some sort of myopic idea of decency or values on other people. We do this through common sense.

We have a new home too! The Angry Elephant Society has been founded to keep us informed AND united. We're calling on all conservatives regardless of gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation to stand up and be counted. We're uniting under this one front to make our collective voices heard! We're sick of the @%#$'n liberals gaining ground because of their propaganda only being perpetuated by the neo-conservative pukes.
