REFORM PARTY SHEDS EXTREMIST FACTION
Tuesday, April 16, 2002, Tucson, AZ.—In a statement today, Gerry Moan, National Chairman of the Reform Party USA, founded by Ross Perot, said, “The recent exodus of the more extreme followers of Pat Buchanan who entered the party in 2000 represents a brand new day for us. The small number of leaders that resigned distorted the party’s message and broke rules to force their narrow social agenda on it. We now look forward to building the party as it was intended, focusing on our key issues: trade, political and immigration reform.”
Misinformation disseminated yesterday to the press in a news release issued by the dissenters claimed the “disaffiliation” of several state parties. It was inaccurately reported that the Texas party dissolved and that other state parties had legally disaffiliated. None of this is true. “Our state parties are not in any jeopardy and will thrive without all the havoc created by the dissenting faction.”
The disgruntled members left because they were frustrated that their extremist agenda could not get a majority on the national executive committee. “Our chairman vigorously applied party rules which frustrated the objectives of those that left. These white supremacists, anti-Semites and no-exceptions pro-lifers who were previously booted from the Republican Party did not find a home here in the Reform Party either,” said RPUSA press secretary Cherilyn Bacon.
Since 1992, the United We Stand America movement and long-time members of the RPUSA have been committed to trade reform, term limits, and true campaign finance reform, as well as reforming restrictive election laws that do not allow fair and equal ballot access for all parties. Other priority issues are maintaining sovereignty and immigration reform.
“The Reform Party is the only party that addresses viable solutions.” Moan said. “Both major parties talk a good talk, but neither major party has demonstrated that it has the guts to do the walk to reform anything. Americans know there is corruption in the system and that many politicians primarily protect their own interests. We’re here to do something about it. For those who agree that our country is in trouble and are disgusted with its broken system, now’s the time to get involved. We invite them to join us by visiting our website at www.reformparty.org or calling our toll-free line 1-877-GO-REFORM.”
