The CNP, The Cascadian National Party is a new, progressive political party that is calling for the secession of the states of Oregon and Washington from the United States to create the Republic of Cascadia.
There are some of us who believe that this "grand experiment" called the United States has become redundant and the politicians who are in power from Olympia to Salem to Washington, D.C. have lost touch with the people in everything from corporate interests, the environment, and foreign policy.
The time is coming for our land, to reassess our priorities and position in the World. Those who are calling the shots don't seem to realize this and it's doubtful they ever will.
Not too long ago, Cascadia, or better known as the Pacific Northwest was one of the most pristine and most unique places to live. Where you could be in a forest just outside the city limits or find farms minutes away, traffic gridlock was unheard of, people had cheap housing, and we had our own identity that was unique to the United States but that has changed.
Cascadia has gone through some profound changes. One of the good aspects is that our economy has become more diverse but that's just one thing. At what price have we paid for such diversity?
A population explosion that was not even thought of 25 years ago, gridlock on our highways, gentrification at the expense of the working poor, the homogenizing of our culture, the dwindling resources from our forests to the disappearing numbers of salmon, a symbol of Cascadia, and not to mention out of control development that some parts of our largest cities resemble Los Angeles!
The politicians, particularly the locals, seem to be resting on their laurels for all the success and prosperity that we have seen in the past decade, that incompetence and indifference has just gotten worse in recent years. They seem more interested in lining their pockets with corporate interests and a devil may care attitude toward the constituents.
How long can this go on? It is probably not going to change and in fact, this inept approach to our problems and our needs resembles what happened in the last days of the Roman Empire. However, the politicians and corporates are not fully to blame. We the people should bare some of the burden for our apathy in letting all that has happened but all hope is not lost. There are ways in doing something about it.
The CNP believes that there is a chance to wipe the slate clean and start fresh by establishing our own government to shape our own destiny and needs and not of those in Washington, D.C. and those in the multi-global corporation world. We can do better with a smaller country and government that is not going to be represented by the almighty dollar. A country where the standard of living could be much higher than it is now without compromising it's principals of freedom and community.
A country where the top priorities are safeguarding the environment, education, helping those who need help without just a handout, and promoting peace worldwide without exploiting the will of others in the world through adventurism by a superpower.
If all of these things appeal to you, a Washington state or Oregon voter, and concerned about the state of our Cascadian homeland then you are invited to join us. On this site, you will find many of the views and goals of the CNP. The CNP is also open to ideas and suggestions and could always use your support. Together, we can achieve our goal of a peaceful, prosperous, clean and truly free Oregon and Washington under a Cascadian Republic!
