      There are people who bring a lot more cash then mere R$10K on a regular basis. However, there have been more then one occasion when a customs officer on duty requested that the customs declaration where the funds had been declared were to be changed... for security reasons.

      There also have been quite a few cases where tourists (even in large groups) have been stopped and robbed at gun point on the way from the airport, so yeah one has to be careful and DISCREET.
