Hello,

I would like to welcome Sean to our group. Sean've actualy survived staying at the apartment and (hopefully) doesn't mind answering a few
questions from the membership. His next few days might be somewhat hectic due to the passions of the hurricane Mishelle, but I am sure he'll be just fine and will arrive to Rio in a couple of weeks to
recover e para matar saudade.

Mark,

take a look at the Bookmarks section for the links to the travel agencies. Just in case you still have problems accessing the board, I e-mailed info to you directly.

Thank you,
Boris

By the way... I'm looking for a CHEAP flight ticket from Rio to Manaus (after jan. 7, 2002). Can anyone help me and make some recommendations? Mucho appreciated!

Hello Mark,

Thanks for the lead -actually I've already sent them an e-mail two days ago and am waiting to hear from them. Hopefully, they will be able to provide me with something at a good rate! I'm from Brussels, Belgium but living in Washington, DC where I study
and where I will be leaving from. Since everyone is speaking of the weather, i'm also giving you an update on the conditions here: sunny but starting to be cold... but not that cold, though!

Sacha,

You may also want to try www.brol.com for their Ecological Tourism Packages and Brazil Air Pass Deals. Are you planning to stay in Manaus or do you have other destinations on your mind? There are numerous tour and travel options available from local Tourist Agencies here in Brazil. If you can post or e-mail me some of your plans, I can do some deal searching here in Rio. It might actually save you some money vs. buying the same package or tickets abroad.

Regards,

Boris

Hello Boris, how are you? Thanks for your proposition of doing some research in Rio about travelling to Manaus! This would, indeed, be very
helpful to me since I still haven't found out what is the best way (time vs. price) for getting to Manaus from Rio. I've been on several sites and saw about the AirPass -which I found fantastic- but unfortunately won't be able to enjoy at its fullest extent since the length of my stay in Brazil (one week in Rio, two weeks around) would be too short to use the airpass fully. I plan to visit Sao Paulo
where I have friends living there, and like Buzios isn't that far by car from Rio, we might get there too. Igacu Falls aren't so far from Sao Paulo
so we'll do that by road (car or bus). Any suggestions, anything you feel
we shouldn't miss... LET ME KNOW PLEASE!!!

Leaving Manaus... I don't know exactly why but I feel I HAVE to touch that city. I've been attracted by the Amazon, the rainforest, jungle animals,
indians (raoni?) since always... so I'd like very much to visit that part for about four days/three or four nights (enough?). I've seen the websites
you gave me and the Eco packages are a bit beyond my cost expectations (it doesn't include any roundtrip from Rio, right)? Also, I definitely want to
get a feeling of "backpackers", meaning that I won't be requiring much luxury at all, just the minimum needed... fly there, find a cheap motel
(unless you'd find me a real good package that includes all of this), join tours on-place, jungle tours, boat tours, visit to the natives, etc... Do
you recommend me to do this or is it somewhat dangerous? Again, any comments from you... much appreciated!

Sacha,

Here are some preliminary results of my research:

1. Brazil Air pass is still your best bet both time and price wise.

2. It'll take you at least 14 hours to get to Iguacu Falls from Sao
Paulo.

3. The local prices for roundtrip ticket Rio-Manaus-Rio is around
R$1200.

4. If you wish to have the "backpacking" experience you might want
to look into going the bus route from Rio to Belem and then catch
a boat to Manaus. Beware, the distances are great and the trip
can be very (I mean, very time consuming).

Here are a few links with available Eco-TOurs and Travelogues:

http://www.amazonriver.com/English.htm
http://www.excite.com/travel/destinations/south_america/brazil/tours_a
nd_agents/

Meanwhile, I'll keep on looking...

Geez, what's going on, guys? Is it global warming or is it just us? Congradulation on your lady friend situation, hope you are not going to continue pursuing a married lady ... I am happy, for her that
is...

Of course, it could've been nice to inform you beforehand, but maybe she just wasn't sure until the very last moment.
