Boris,
After my first visit to Rio I found out this is where I want to be. I sold my business in the states. I owned a small bar and I was wondering where do
people find businesses in rio? Are there business brokers or is it mainlyn newspapers? I was looking to get a bar or little club. Or idealy maybe one of
those one man hut things right on the boardwalk in front of the beach, where they sell those coconuts and the crappy hamburgers. Any help would be great.
Thanks Brian

How does that work since as I understand it you can only stay in Brazil for a maximum of 180 days. Is that not correct?

Thanks, Glen

Glen,

You are absolutly correct. Most of the foreigners who set up businesses are here on investment visa ($200K +), are married to locals... or retired.

Brain,

THere are a few brokers specialising in selling commercial enterprises, but it is mostly done through networking and yes, newspapers. Bar business is lucrative and profitable, but Brazil is one of the many countries where it is much easier to lose money then to make...

I will write something up within a day or two (right after the home insurance question is answered) about setting up businesses in Brazil. I also happen to know a few guys who own kiosks (little stands on the beach) as well as a few who worked in them. E-mail me if you have any specific questions.

The site of the Brazilian Embassy in London seems to have the most comprehensive information about the procedures and requirements for different types of Brazilian visas. Check it out:
