Boris, I was wondering if you were able to look into the subject I sent you an email on yesterday (the Kiosks and there prices). My next question is are you familiar with how people ship cars, furniture,
general household goods into Brazil. I was thinking it must be cargo container. Do you know if that is a good way? Expensive? Is getting a car into Brazil a hassle? Thanks in advance. P.S. is there a web-site for the Globo(I think that's Rio's newspaper) where I can see
classifieds? Thanks Brian

Brian,

I am a little overwhelmed at the moment and backlog of the questions to answer is steadily growing. The kiosks are still pending.

Shipping into Brazil is a little complicated because it is connected with your immigrant status. There is certain allowance set for people moving down here on permanenent visas. For everybody else there are 100% + duty taxes. Shipping itself is not expensive, about
$1700 for a 20' container with $300-$400 more for a 40'. It takes 17 days to get cargo from NY to Rio.

I will write more about it later on tonight.

Thank you,
Boris

unless you are a diplomat, the Brazilian govt don't allow you to bring a car into the country (I checked). Also bear in mind that Brazil uses PAL-M for TV signals (a bastardisation between NTSC and the european PAL-G!!!), so you might want to look at buying new video equipt when you get there (or buy some conversion equipt)

Brian,

O Globo uses web site www.planetaimovel.com for its RE classifieds listings on-line.

As far as shipping and customs information is concerned, try these links:
