Hi,

From what I understand a foreigner with a Visa cannot stay in Brazil for longer than 90 days at a time in a one-year period. If I plan on moving to Brazil for a year, how do I manage to stay in the country for more than 90 days? Do I need to get a special type of Visa? Do I need to leave the country every 90 days and then return? Thanks for any information you can provide.

Hi Phil,

You might stay as long as 180 days per year on tourist visa. You will have to either extend your stay by getting a passport stamp at Policia Federal or opt for a visa run out of the country (in order not to extend 90 day at a time limit).

Any stay for more then 180 days requires a special visa, such as:

student visa or some type of a permanent one (retirement, family reunion, investment...)

Regards,
Boris
