I would like advice on living in Rio or surrounding areas. First of all, I currenty live in the U.S
I have a Masters in Social Work and currently work as a Clinical and Forensic Social Worker and teach part-time at a community college.I am also finishing a Doctorite Degree in Public Health. [Plan A]I plan on working for another six years in the states and then move to Rio and buy a Flat and live full-time.
I would like to know if I would have any problems finding employment? I would like to continue working in the human service or education field (part-time, consultant, goverment work, etc.)
or [Plan B] retire in the U.S at 55 and then venture to live and working in Brazil (currently, I am young 38).
I am i the pre-planning phase of this dream. Any advice would be appreciated.

I live in a city called Niterói, across the bay from Rio. Its a lot quieter and safer than Rio and has some very nice neighbourhoods. The beaches here are wonderfull, and Rio is only a 40 minute drive across a bridge.
Good luck

Phil...
Your comment on Niteroi was very interesting. Sounds like an area that we might want to live in. Could you please give us any information about what neighborhoods are the nicest, preferrably near the baech. We would buy not rent, house or flat.
Thanks

I Agree! It's not as easy for foreigners to find jobs in Brazil as it is for Brazilians to find it in America... but, look into foreign companies, which pay more anyway, and think about opening your own business, find out where you want to live, find out what's needed in that community and fell the gap... off course if you succeed there will be plenty of imitators, but if you focus on customer services and product quality, always missing in Brazil, and you'll make it.
Good luck and go for it!
