Doe's anyone have some examples of how they bought and sold in Brazil and how much there home appreciated in price?

I'd say it's fair to say that here in the U.S. homes have appreciated on average of 8% during the last five years or so. As I listen to the experts speak they suggest the 8% to 9% will be the appreciation rate of homes in the next 5 years.

Hi John-

All the people I know have bought in Brazil recently (within the past few years). Since most of them bought for reasons other then financial gain, nobody is selling.

In my estimate though, the average appreciation rate in Reals was about 15% per year with dollar appreciation set at about 10% (due to currency devaluation) In some rare cases, prime real estate properties have appreciated two to three times in Reals and at about 90% in dollars within the past few years.

US is still the best and the safest, but the cost of ownership (taxes, renovation expenses, and maintenance fees) there is very high.

Regards,
Boris
