just got back from recife i have a lovely villa there for rent everything brand new, so if you are intrested please email me. still having problems with bank account tried the hsbc with a letter from hsbc uk, and they still said no. my wife is from recife and they still said we needed a income each month to go into the bank any ideas?

Hi Jamie,

You will not be able to open up a joint account with your wife in a Brazilian bank. Current Banco Central policies do not treat foreigners without a permanent visa kindly.

If you have a permanent visa and try to appeal to the common sense of the local HSBC branch to take you in as a client based on your income and assets outside of Brazil... you are also out of luck.

Try Bradesco or Itau. These two banks might take pity on you and take you in with no or little Brazilian side documentation

P.S. Stay away from Banco Santander, they are having some major problems up in the North East.

many thanks borris, can you give me any info on importing a car from the uk to brasil i want to ship over a LHD merc from the uk any ideas?
