We will be moving to Brasil for several months of the year and was wondering if there are any compatibility concerns re electronics.

Will all televisions and computers work in Brasil (we will be in Buzios)? Are there preferred brands that work better in Brazil than others? Are there certain electronics that it would be better to purchase once we get to Brasil, rather than bringing them with us?

Thanks much!

Hello there,

No problems using US purchased electronics and computer HW.

Beware of the HDTV standarts in Brazil and of the inferior maintenance and repair availability. If your laptop tanks - that´s pretty much it. It will be hard to find competent/inexpensive company/professional to fix it for you.

In general, all Brazilian electronics are two generations behind and at least twice as expensive as what you can get back in the States.

The quality is often abysmal.

Bring what you can. Beware of the customs duties and import taxes.

Regards,
Boris
