I plan a trip to Brazil very soon. I was 2 times before and I know that in the plane they give to fill that you don't have cash over this amount.
But how should tourists know the exchange rate ,and if they have US$ or Euros a little more over this amount waht can happen ??Do they confiscate the amount which passes 10,000 reais? Do I have to declare my money,of course I don't carry very big cash, but can be around 10.000 reais.I read many things which worry me now.
Thank you for any answer!

Try finding out the exchange rate on the day before you travel and then try to carry as close amount as possible. If you happen to carry cash (or travellers checks) on the sum over estimated R$10,000.00, then simply declare it. There are no fees or taxes on this amount.
What things that you read worry you?
Regards,
Boris

You are right to be concerned but it's not a problem to bring in over R$10,000 as long as you declare it. Be careful with all that money. What flight and city are you flying into and on what day? Can you give us a description of yourself!

There are people who bring a lot more cash then mere R$10K on a regular basis. However, there have been more then one occasion when a customs officer on duty requested that the customs declaration where the funds had been declared were to be changed... for security reasons.
There also have been quite a few cases where tourists (even in large groups) have been stopped and robbed at gun point on the way from the airport, so yeah one has to be careful and DISCREET.
