The American University of Kuwait (AUK) is a new, chartered private university in Kuwait. It is a coeducational institution of higher education organized on the American model and developed to accommodate the needs of the citizens of Kuwait and the people of the region. The medium of instruction is English. Student applicants will be considered on the basis of their qualifications irrespective of their gender, religion, race or national origin. AUK opened its doors in the fall of 2004. AUK expects a student body of around 1000 in the fall of 2005.
Bachelor of Arts and Science degrees are offered in 8 majors by the faculties of two schools: Arts and Sciences and Management and Business Administration. The College of Arts and Sciences have degree programs in Public Relations and Advertising, Journalism, Computer Science and Information Systems, Economics, English and Comparative Literature, History and International Studies, and Sociology and Anthropology. The School of Management and Business Administration offers a Bachelor of Business Administration degree program with four concentrations. Other schools and degree programs are scheduled to be phased in by the fifth year of operation.

The Campus of the American University of Kuwait is located on a 43,000 square meter area in the prestigious Salmiya district of Kuwait. The University Campus in Salmiya has a state-of-the-art Library, computerized classrooms, computer laboratories, science laboratories, faculty and administration offices, sporting facilities, a student organization center and two cafes/cafeterias. The University Campus is uniquely and beautifully landscaped.
AUK is seeking faculty and staff who are committed to teaching excellence, original scholarship and exceptional service to students and the university community. Prospective candidates with an interest and experience in quality higher education, interdisciplinary teaching, and the effective use of technology inside and outside the classroom are encouraged to apply and become a part of the faculty of AUK. Applicants should have a terminal degree in the appropriate academic discipline and provide evidence of excellence in teaching.
AUK offers competitive salaries. There is no income tax in Kuwait. Initial contracts are normally for three years renewable. Rank will be determined by previous employment history. For international hires, full benefits, including roundtrip travel for faculty members and dependents, major medical and dental insurance, tuition allowance for children through High School, a housing allowance, and an end-of-contract indemnity, are offered. Paid home leave for faculty and dependents between academic years is also given. Interviews will be held in Washington, DC. Positions are open until filled with preference given to the earliest applicants. Faculty who are appointed must be in Kuwait by August 15, 2005.

ARTS AND SCIENCES
English and Comparative Literature: To teach English composition and comparative literature in various periods and genres. Also desirable is ability to teach translation, public speaking, communication and journalism writing. Ph.D. is required.
Intensive English: Candidates must have a Master's degree in ESL or a related field with a certificate in ESL. M.A. in TESOL or Linguistics is required.
Philosophy: To teach introductory and second level courses in Western and Islamic Philosophy and possibly intellectual history. Ph.D. is required
