EFL position in Aden, Yemen

AMIDEAST, an American NGO dedicated to improving understanding between Americans and the peoples of the Middle East and North Africa, has an entry-level position open for teachers with native proficiency in North American English.

We are looking for a one-year commitment. Teachers can expect to be in the classroom for two to six hours per day (one to three classes per day), five days per week. Sessions last for five weeks, and there are one-week breaks between sessions.

Yemen is a poor country with a per capita income of less than $450 per year. It is also a fascinating and challenging country in which to live. Working here is ideal for single candidates who are looking to broaden their EL experience whilst living in the Middle East. Aden, formerly a British Crown Colony, is a warm port city on the Indian Ocean and boasts an inexpensive cost of living, interesting past, wonderful beaches, and great seafood.

Please contact us for application procedures and requirements. funderhill@amideast.org
967-02-232-345 fax/phone.

A bachelor’s degree, TEFL certification, and prior teaching experience are preferred. A Master’s in TESOL, previous experience abroad, and CALL experience are not necessary but strengthen an application.

Pay ranges from $9 to $12 per inclass instructional hour, depending upon experience and qualifications. The teacher is considered an independent contractor, but has some benefits. These include: a simple air-conditioned, furnished apartment, utilities (except phone), residency permit processing, limited Internet access, and medical treatment. Return airfare is reimbursed following successful completion of the contract.
