Zayed University, the premier university in the United Arab Emirates, is an exciting and innovative young institution committed to the education of Emirati women. It has about 130 faculty and 1200 students on each of its campuses in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Zayed University graduates bilingual students who are global in their thinking and equipped to become leaders of their country and role models for women in the Arab world. The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest of Zayed University's five colleges, both in terms of the number of faculty and the diversity of its programs. The College offers B.A. programs in Art and Design and Social and Behavioral Sciences, and a B.S. in Health Sciences. The College also takes primary leadership in the Colloquy On Integrated Learning, Zayed University's core curriculum. The Colloquy builds students' understanding through a full range of subjects recognized as the foundation for modern learning. Zayed University is fully accredited in the U.A.E. and is a candidate for accreditation with the Middle States Commission for Higher Education in the U.S.A.Director - University English Center

Position:

Building on the planning currently underway, the Director of the University English Center will take the lead in articulating and implementing a set of programs dedicated to supporting students' English language development in the core curriculum and in the majors. As a full partner in the Colloquy On Integrated Learning, the Director will collaborate with the English composition program and the Colleges in integrating language-development strategies throughout the core curriculum and the majors. He or she will take the lead in designing and delivering a professional development program that will build language-development capacity throughout the University's faculty. The Director will also assist in designing a plan for comprehensively assessing and improving the University's effectiveness in developing students' bilingual abilities.

The Requirements:
Ph.D. in rhetoric and composition, applied linguistics, English, TESOL, or a related field. Significant experience in supervising faculty and in effectively coordinating with multiple academic units.
Experience with multi-section university-level language development courses. Experience with writing-across-the-curriculum programs, writing-in-the-major disciplines, English Centers, or ESL student populations.

Although the University's normal contract cycle is three years, the College would consider qualified candidates on sabbatical or leave from their home institutions for one or two year appointments.
