The Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi is seeking applications for the Freshman Communication faculty for Spring and Fall semesters 2005. Applicants should possess:

* An MA or a PhD in ESL/EFL, Linguistics, Communications, Education, or a closely related field.
* Three years teaching at tertiary level, preferably in a second language environment
* Experience in using educational technology for communication

In addition to ten contact hours per week, and up to 10 hours student consultation, faculty participate in curriculum development (syllabus, materials and assessment design), and committee work in an outcomes and project-based learning environment with a focus on collaborative learning.

Communication Skills courses aim to meet the objectives of producing independent learners with critical thinking and communication skills. Problem solving and team work are highlighted in project-based courses that develop students’ ability to communicate both orally and in written form. Project planning and time management skills are developed as students work in teams to gather and share information, leading to research reports and oral presentations.

The PI is seeking candidates with experience in improving L2 communication skills using collaborative learning and real-life projects related to undergraduate study. The Petroleum Institute opened in September of 2001 in newly constructed office, laboratory, and classroom facilities. The total compensation package includes a 12-month base salary, an expatriation allowance, and a benefits allowance that covers housing, utilities, initial furnishings, transportation (automobile purchase loan), health insurance and annual leave travel.
