ESL/EFL Faculty Position - INTERLINK Language Center

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

INTERLINK Language Centers (ILC) provides intensive English language training, academic preparation, and cross-cultural orientation programs on diverse American university campuses. In September 2004, it opened its first overseas center at Al-Yamamah College in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

An all-male, five-year institution of higher education, Al Yamamah College offers an American-style curriculum (in English) specializing in six areas of business. In partnership with Al Yamamah, INTERLINK provides intensive English and academic preparation programs for students before they start their business studies and business English throughout the students' first year of academic study.

The Saudi INTERLINK program is based on the same student-centered philosophy of experiential, heuristic, needs-based learning as INTERLINK uses in its US centers. A carefully selected faculty engage a wide variety of skills and talents to provide the best possible learning experiences for Saudi students. First-rate teaching facilities and support services are available for the faculty.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The faculty's primary responsibility is to help students learn English either in preparation for taking academic courses at the College, or for improving English for professional and personal purposes. Responsibilities include 20 hours of weekly EFL instruction, advising students on their progress, assisting students with study skills/learning strategies, and participating in program meetings and college committees. This instruction may also involve outside institutions including government agencies, the business community, or the general public. When teaching assignments involve both Al Yamamah students and other students, scheduling will try to minimize gaps between day and evening class times. Secondary duties consist of assisting program administrators with curriculum review, revision and on-going assessment, orientation, scheduling, placement, and materials review and development.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

* Genuine commitment to the student, the profession and to the philosophy espoused by INTERLINK and Al Yamamah College
* MA in ESOL or Applied Linguistics
(Non-native speakers' undergraduate and graduate degrees must be from an English-speaking country; they must have near-native proficiency in English; and must have ESL teaching experience at an IEP in an English-speaking country)
* Two or more years of intensive teaching experience in ESL or EFL environments
(Non-native applicants must have this experience in an English-speaking country)
* Ability to work with all levels, ranging from very basic to advanced
* Willingness to use innovative approaches, including project-based, experiential learning and student-centered curricula
* Superior verbal, written, interpersonal skills and interest in cross-cultural learning and training
* Ability to accept cultural differences and adapt to a way of life requiring understanding, conformity and flexibility
* Proficiency in computer skills, including Internet, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Access (CALL a plus)
* Candidates with Peace Corps experience, proficiency in another language, publications or work experience in the Middle East will be given preference and additional compensation.
* Male (since Al-Yamamah is an all-male College)
* 55 years of age or under due to the governmentís mandatory retirement regulations

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, ranging between $34,000 and $37,000 per annum. The benefit package includes round-trip transportation to and from Saudi Arabia; free furnished housing; medical insurance coverage; paid 30-day annual leave with international transportation; local transportation to and from the College; local holidays; annually renewable contract; 5% contract completion bonus; and 5% contract renewal bonus.

Because of the continual growth in the program, faculty recruitment is on-going; applicants accepted for the positions may report to the College in January or September. There may also be other times during the year that applicants may be invited to join.
