FACULTY Openings for Fall 2006-2007

The American University of Kuwait seeks talented teaching scholars for its Fall 2006-2007 academic school year. AUK is a coeducational institution of higher education organized on the American model and developed to accommodate the needs of the citizens of Kuwait and the Gulf region.

AUK offers competitive compensation packages. Packages include roundtrip travel for faculty and dependents, major medical and dental insurance, tuition allowance for children through high school, tuition allowance for child dependants attending the American University of Kuwait, furniture and housing allowance, and end-of-contract indemnity. Paid home leave for faculty and dependents between academic years is also given. Kuwait has no personal income tax. The medium of instruction is English. Initial contracts are for three years renewable. Rank will be determined by previous employment history. Positions are open until filled with preference given to the earliest applicants. Interviews will take place beginning Fall 2005. Faculty who are appointed must be in Kuwait by August 2006.

Requirements: Earned doctorate or terminal degree; strong commitment to teaching and professional development; communication and interpersonal skills, including excellent command of written and spoken English. Duties include teaching undergraduates, student advising, research and publishing, and service to the university.

FACULTY POSITIONS FOR AY 2006-2007

Arabic: To teach introductory courses in Arabic, Arabic Literature and Culture, Writing and Composition for Native and Non Native Speakers.

Business: Emphasis on teaching Marketing, Finance/Economics, Management, and Entrepreneurship.

Computer Science and Information Systems: Ability to teach computer science and information systems courses at all levels.

English Rhetoric and Composition: Emphasis on teaching remedial English, Freshmen and Sophomore Level Writing, and Speech courses.

Health and Wellness: Joint appointment with Student Affairs. Ability to teach wellness and activity courses in addition to coordinating University Intramural Sports program.

Humanities: Areas include Music, Theater, Drama, and the Arts.

Intensive English: Candidates must have a Master's degree in ESL or a related field with a certificate in ESL. M.A. in TESOL or Linguistics is required.

Mass Communication and Media Studies: To teach courses in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations and Advertising and Speech.

Mathematics: Emphasis on teaching remedial and finite mathematics; pre- calculus and calculus.

Physical Sciences: Subject areas include biology, physics, and astronomy.

Social Sciences: Subject areas include History, International Studies, Political Science, Economics, and Geography.
