Hi. I've just bought one (my second) it was a bit of a rip off but its getting there. Points to watch for, 1/ car needs to start when cold no knocking or ratteling, 2/ see how high the temperature gauge goes to (should not go above half way) check engine sound when run, should still sound sweet. 3/ mileage not to high and if over 60000 have they a receipt for timming belt change 4/ it's good to have a service hitory (book all stamped up) 5/ look at repair receipts to see major faults. 6/ gearbox opperates smoothly if auto and does not jump when put into gear and pulls away with no hesitation(also check through gears if tiptronic, this means can be used same as manual). If manual check clutch is not slipping and slips into gear smoothly. 7/ Check wheel arches for paint bubbles and all panel joints. 8/ Check all lights and horn is working. 9/ check suspension, listen for creecking when getting in or out, best to have two people at a time get in, 10/ check condition of interior especially drivers seat and mats. And finally you could do a vehicle check by text (costs about £3.
FTO's are usually sound cars and are normally well looked after but some idiots do abuse them. Hope this helps and good luck
