Revenge

Preface: This story takes place approximately ten years after Rick and Dee Dee have been married. They have three children, Rick Jr., 7; Emilie, 4; and Steven, 1. Rick is now captain of the precinct. When they were first married they were allowed to remain partners because they worked so well together, but when Dee Dee became pregnant they decided that she should have a desk job and aside from the occasional undercover jobs, Dee Dee has remained at that job ever since. They have a house in L.A. and are still as much in love as the day they married.
It was five o’clock and if he was lucky his wife and he could leave on time. Hunter just hoped that no one had the urge to get killed until Monday. Hunter got up from his desk and walked out of his office to go find his wife. Dee Dee Hunter was deeply involved in finishing her last bit of paperwork that when Hunter walked up behind her and kissed her cheek she nearly jumped 6 feet.
“Rick,” said Dee Dee, “you scared the crap out of me.”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know giving my wife a kiss would be cause to get scared I’ll be more careful from now on.” Rick joked.
“Ugg, you can kiss me anytime you want just don’t come up from behind like that” groaned Dee Dee.
“Okay!” Rick said as he bent to give her a full kiss on the lips. “Is that okay.”
“Umm, that’s perfect.”
“I just came over to ask if you were ready to go home.” Rick said.
“Yes I am ready, just let me put these things away,” Dee Dee said.
“Okay, I’m going to go close up my office. I’ll be back in five minutes, then we can go get the kids and go home.”
Rick went back to his office cleaned up his desk and locked the door, then he went to get his wife. They left Parker Center together and got in their mini van. After they had gotten married and discovered that they were going to have a baby, Dee Dee had finally convinced Rick that he needed to get a car that wouldn’t break down everyday, so they went out and got a mini van with the works.
After they left the station they went by the daycare to pick up Emilie and Steven and then they went to the school to pick Rick Jr. up from his basketball practice. Then they headed home to eat dinner and have a relaxing Friday. Rick had promised that if they were good he would let them watch a movie after Ricky got his homework done.
As dinner was winding down, Rick got up to start cleaning things up, although he could cook very little he thought that he could at least help with the cleanup. Dee Dee was still sitting at the table finishing feeding Steven. Finally Steven had decided he was full and instead of eating it he was trying to play with so Dee Dee gave up. Rick was coming over to get Steven for her when she” stood up but was overcome by a wave of nausea and dizziness and had to sit down before she threw up. Rick saw this and immediately became concerned.
“Dee Dee, honey are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. I’m probably just coming down with something. I’ll just put Steven to bed and then go lie down.”
“No that’s alright, I’ll put him to bed you just go rest okay.”
“Okay, are you sure you’ll be okay by yourself.”
“Dee Dee, I know how to take care of my own kids. I can handle it, I just want you make sure to take care of yourself. Now go.”
With that Dee Dee headed into their bedroom, while Rick first put a movie in to amuse Ricky and Emilie, and then went to get to Steven ready for bed.”
After the movie was over Hunter put Ricky in bed first and then went to tell his daughter a story. Even though it was late and Hunter just wanted to go see how his wife was he knew that Emilie would refuse to go to bed until she had her story. Dee Dee always said that Hunter spoiled her but he said that he just didn’t like to see her sad. When Hunter asked her which story she wanted to hear tonight, Emilie said she would like to hear about how Mommy and Daddy had been policemen and caught a lot of bad guys. So Hunter picked out a case that they had done and told a very watered down story to the little girl so that she wouldn’t be frightened.
When Hunter was done he went to his bedroom to find his wife already sound asleep. He smiled when he saw her and then went about getting ready to go to bed. When he was ready, he crawled into bed and pulled her close. Before he closed his eyes he gave her a soft kiss and whispered “I love you Dee Dee.” Then he fell asleep with happy dreams of his family. Little did he know that very soon his whole world would turn upside down.
The next morning Hunter awoke to the tantalizing smells of breakfast. As he walked into the kitchen he saw his wife in her robe cooking a large breakfast. Apparently all signs of nausea from the night before had all but disappeared as she seemed perfectly fine cooking breakfast.
When she saw Hunter staring at her, she smiled and said, “Good Morning, sleepyhead. Did you sleep well?”
“Yeah, how are you feeling today?”
“I feel great I must have just had a 24 hour bug. I woke up about an hour ago and decided to make breakfast for my family.”
“Mmm, sounds like a good idea to me. The kids up yet.”
“No, I thought I’d let them sleep a little longer. How about you go and start to get the boys ready and I’ll be along in a minute to get Emily ready, I don’t trust you to make her look presentable.”
“Hey I have a good sense of style.”
“Yeah, I know I heard from the daycare how she was dressed when I was out of town a few months ago. Just face it Rick, men can’t be trusted with a woman’s job.”
“I give up I’m going to wake up the boys, I’ll be back in a few minutes.”
Rick headed upstairs to the bedroom that the boys shared as Dee Dee finished up the breakfast. In ten minutes the whole family was dressed and sitting at the table about to eat when Dee Dee was overcome with a wave of nausea and headed for the downstairs bathroom. Hunter told Ricky to keep an eye on his brother and sister and he would be right back. He followed Dee Dee into to bathroom and found her bent over the stool.
When Dee Dee noticed Hunter standing there she tried to plaster on smile but that didn’t fool him. “I guess I was wrong about it being a 24 hour bug, huh.”
Rick smiled and said, “Guess so, you okay?”
“Yeah I guess I’ll go see the doctor on Monday.”
“You sure you can last that long?”
“Yeah I’ll be fine.”
They headed back to kitchen to finish eating although Dee Dee was pretty sure she wouldn’t be able to. As they were eating they discussed what they were going to do that day. Hunter was going to take the boys to a Rams game that he had had ticket to for a while now. Ricky was very excited about this because he had inherited his fathers love of sports. Dee Dee and Emily were planning on cleaning up the house first and then they were going to shopping. Hunter laughed and said, “Just be sure not to spend too much.”
An hour later Hunter and the boys were ready to go, they headed out to Hunters SUV. After Hunter had put Steven in his car seat and made sure that Ricky’s seatbelt was fastened he kissed Dee Dee and Emily goodbye and said “I love you” to both of them. Then he got in and drove off.
About five hours later, Hunter pulled into the garage and was surprised to see the mini-van there. He was sure that Dee Dee and Emily would still be out shopping. Ricky ran ahead to show his mom the autographed football that he had won while Hunter was getting Steven out of his car seat. When he had lifted Steven out he heard a scream from Ricky. He rushed in only to brought up short by the state the first floor was in.
Rick immediately tried calling for his wife and daughter although he had feeling that he wasn’t going find them there. Immediately he went into cop mode and told Ricky to take Steven outside and play. On his way out Hunter told Ricky not to touch a thing. He then got his cell phone to call the precinct to get the lab boys down there right away.
Twenty minutes later the house was full of activity as almost every officer was there trying to figure out what had happened to the Captains wife and daughter. Kitty had come and taken the boys to her house so that Hunter could concentrate on finding them.
Just then a young officer came out of the house holding something in his hands.
“Sir,” he said, “do you recognize this?”
All Hunter said was, “O G-d.”
The officer was holding out Dee Dee’s .38 magnum gun to him and it was obvious that she had tried to use because the gun was kept in a very safe place in the house. Hunter knew that the only reason it would be out is if someone or something had scared Dee Dee.
“We found it in your bedroom, Sir. Also there was some blood on the carpet and there is some on the butt of this gun. Perhaps your wife was knocked out with it. We also found this on the kitchen counter, Sir.” The officer held out a sheet of notebook paper with some writing on it. Hunter took it without a word and read it. It said:
Captain Hunter,
As you can see I have taken your wife and daughter. If you ever want to see them again I suggest you stay by your phone and wait for my call. I plan for you to make up for what you and your beautiful partner made me suffer for the last 13 years.
The note was unsigned. Hunter gave it back to the man so that they could take it for fingerprinting although he suspected that if this man had planned this for thirteen years he wouldn’t be stupid to leave his fingerprints at the crime. Before the officer left he told Hunter that they had tap on his phone already and it would be ready when the kidnapper called. Before Hunter went inside to see if there was anything else he could use, he looked up to the heavens and prayed that his wife and daughter would be alright. He didn’t know what he would do if anything happened to them. He hoped that they were not hurt and that this b-----d had since enough not to hurt them in any way or he would personally kill him.
Dee Dee awoke with a start, it took her a moment to realized where she was and then she remembered what had happened. She was in her room folding clothes when she heard Emilie scream a scream of pure terror. She immediately got her gun which was hidden in the dresser. But before she could get out of the bedroom, someone grabbed her from behind and said, “I don’t think so, Lieutenant.” The man took the gun out of her hand and hit her over the head with the butt. Before she lost consciousness she remembered seeing the gun on the floor and she hoped that they would leave it there for Rick to find.
Dee Dee looked around the room to try to see where she was. It was a bedroom of a house, from the looks of it, it looked to be an old house and very run down. The only piece of furniture was the chair that she was tied to. Just then a man walked into the room. Dee Dee thought he looked vaguely familiar but she couldn’t place him.
“Ahh, I see you’ve finally decided to grace us with your presence. I trust you are feeling well?”
“Where am I? Where’s my daughter? What have you done to her?”
“Ooh, slow down, one question at a time. Your daughter is fine, she’s is the other room, don’t worry if I get what I want from your husband I will let you both go.”
“My husband would never give in to you even if you kidnap my whole family. He will find you, I promise. You won’t get whatever you what. He’ll track you down and make sure you suffer.”
“Ahh, but you see, I know what a man will do for his family. He might try to track me down but I doubt he’ll be able to find me. And I have been suffering for the past thirteen years that is exactly what I plan to get repaid for today. And speaking of that I think it is time that I contact him.” He pulled out a cellphone and dialed a number.
Rick answered on the first ring, “Captain Hunter.”
“Ahh, Captain Hunter, I’m glad to see that you have moved up in your career. The last time I had the pleasure of meeting you, you were only a Sergeant.”
“Where’s my wife and daughter, you son of a b---h. If you hurt them I will kill you.” Rick shouted.
“Just calm down, I’m going to tell you what I want and where to meet me, then when you bring me it I will give your wife and daughter back to you.”
“Fine, tell me what you want, I’ll give you anything just so that I can have my family back. But first let me talk to my wife I won’t give you anything until she tells me that she is okay and if you so much as lay a finger on her I will make sure you suffer.”
“Alright, you can talk to her but only for a minute.” He held the phone up to Dee Dee’s ear.
“Rick”
“Dee Dee, are you okay? Is Emilie okay? Have they touched you.”
“I’m fine so far. I don’t know about Emilie she’s in another room, I haven’t seen her. Rick , I’m scared.”
“Don’t worry, honey I’ll get you out of there, I won’t let him hurt you. I love you, Dee Dee.”
“I love you, too Rick.” The man took the phone away from her and continued to him that he wanted twenty million dollars and where to meet him.
After Rick hung up the phone he asked the officer who was running the trace machine if he had gotten an address. The officer said yes.
“Great, let’s go get my family.” Rick said.
“Sir with all due respect I don’t think that you should come along. That is your wife and daughter out there and you might do something that you might regret later.” A young officer said.
Rick whirled around and said, “Look, my wife and daughter are out there and I don’t know if there’re hurt or scared or hungry and I am not going to sit here on my ass and not do a thing, I am going with you and that is final!”
“Yes sir,” the young officer said, not wanting to make his captain more upset than he already was.
The location was about thirty minutes away, Rick just hoped that they got there in time and that Dee Dee and Emilie were okay. The trip couldn’t go any slower, it seemed like they were never going to get there. Finally, twenty five minutes later, they silently pulled up to the worn down house in a neighborhood that was practically abandoned.
Meanwhile….
Her captor hung up the phone and smiled at her. She knew that look and hoped that Rick had been able to trace that phone call and that he would be here soon. She couldn’t bare to go through that again.
“How about we kill some time while we wait for your husband, I have always wondered what it would be like with you I’m sure your husband wouldn’t mind, huh.” He said as he ran a finger along her cheek and bent down to kiss her. When he tried to kiss her she instead bit his lip which made him angry.
“You b---h, your are going to pay for that.” He slapped her hard in the face and then untied her. Once she was free she tried to run away but he was too fast for her, he grabbed her and forced her to the ground. He started to undo her blouse when Dee Dee kneed him in the groin. Then she started to hit him. Just as he reached up and grabbed her, she heard Emilie in the other room call, “Daddy!”
“Rick, in here,” she screamed. Rick came running in and threw himself at the man and started to beat him up. When he thought he was unconscious, he stopped and went to check on Dee Dee who was trembling in a corner.
“Dee Dee, honey it’s okay now. I’m here. Everything’s alright, Emilie is outside with the officers, you’re safe now.”
“Oh, Rick, thank God you got here in time. He was too strong for me, I was so scared.” Dee Dee fell into Rick’s arms and cried. Rick held her knowing that that was all she needed.
They were walking outside when they heard a shot ring and Dee Dee went limp in Rick’s arms.
Rick felt a wave of panic go through as Dee Dee slouched in his arms. He immediately laid her down to see where she was hit.
“Dee Dee don’t you dare leave me not now.” He let out of sigh of relief when he found a gun shot in her thigh. ‘At least its not serious’ he thought.
“Rick what happened?” Dee Dee asked groggily, pain was searing through her leg and she felt like shit.
“You’ve been shot, honey but its okay it’s just a flesh wound on your thigh. I’m going to turn you over to the paramedics now and go see that they have everyone in custody.” Rick had been wondering where that shot had come from and who had shot it.
“Okay but don’t stay away too long. I love you, Rick.”
“I love you, Dee Dee. I’ll be right back.” Before he left he gave her a kiss on the forehead and then he made sure that Emilie was okay. He walked over to the officer who seemed to be taking charge.
“What happened here? Who shot the gun.”
“I’m sorry sir it seems he is the leader somehow he managed to get away from the officers who were arresting him. They were able to jump him when they saw the gun and managed to mess up his aim.”
“Who was that man and what did he want with my family?”
“His name is Jonathon Mertz; he was arrested thirteen years ago by you and your wife. You two had a lot to with his conviction because of your testimonies. He wanted to get revenge for what you did. He apparently had been planning this for a while, but it wasn’t until recently that he learned that you had Lt. Hunter, so he altered his plan to include your daughter. There were also three men that he recruited to help him. We have all of them in custody now and they should go away for a long time.”
“Alright thank you for help, I appreciate it and please thank those two officers who saved my wives life. Let me know if you need anything, I’ll be going to hospital with my wife and daughter.”
“Yes, sir.”
Dee Dee was half asleep in the hospital bed when she heard a slight noise. She opened her eyes and was greeted by two pairs of very happy eyes and two pairs of very sleepy eyes. Rick was sitting in the chair next to the bed with Emilie in his lap sound asleep, while Ricky was sitting in another chair holding a sleeping Steven. When Rick saw that she was awake he smiled at her.
“Welcome back did you sleep well?”
“It was a wonderful sleep, I was just so happy that we were safe. How is she?” Dee Dee said referring to Emilie.
“She’s okay. She hasn’t wanted to leave my arms since I picked her up after they examined her to make sure she okay. She is just kind of scared, I think. How are you, though Dee Dee. I saw what that man wanted do, he didn’t touch you did he?”
“No he didn’t. He would have had you not gotten there in time. I was so scared Rick, I don’t think I’ve ever been that scared in my entire life. Its different when you are there and you have know idea what might be happening to your family. I am so glad you found me in time.” Dee Dee broke down into sobs and Rick struggled to comfort her without disturbing Emilie.
“Shh, its okay I’m here now and I'm not going to let anything happen to you or Emilie. You just try to get some more rest. I'm going to take the kids home so that they can get some rest, I'll be back around eight in the morning tomorrow okay.”
“Okay I'll see you then. I love you Rick.”
“I love you too Dee Dee.” He bent down to give her a quick kiss before leaving with his kids.
The next morning as promised Rick was there at eight. He walked into the room to see a very happy Dee Dee. The kids immediately went to give her hug while he hung back waiting for them to be done. When they were done he told them to wait outside his mom while he talked to their mother. Emilie was reluctant at first but when her grandma told her she would get her a donut she readily agreed. While they were gone a nurse came in with breakfast but before Dee Dee could start to eat she got queasy and ran to the bathroom. When she came out Dee Dee asked the nurse to have the doctor come in because she wanted to talk to him.
When the doctor came in he was smiling and said, “I’ve got some great news for you two.”
“Doctor, I’d like to know if you know why I have been feeling queasy lately.”
“Yes, that is the news I have for you.”
“Really.”
“Yes, you two are expecting a baby. Congratulations.”
“What!” They both said in unison.
“That’s right. You are about nine weeks along.”
“So that’s why I haven’t been feeling well.” Dee Dee said as the doctor walked out to leave them alone with their big news.
When Rick’s mother got back with the children, they told them right away about the good news. They were all excited for them. By the end of the day Dee Dee was ready to go home, but Rick made sure she didn’t overdue it. Eventually she was fully recovered and on her way to a healthy pregnancy.
Six and a half months later
“Come on, Dee Dee you can do it. Push.”
Rick and Dee Dee Hunter were in the delivery room of the hospital. They had been eating dinner at a restaurant when Dee Dee’s water broke. That was six hours earlier and they were almost there.
“Alright I see the head, one more push, Dee Dee.”
With all her might Dee Dee pushed. It seemed like forever until she heard a loud wail fill the room. She lay back on the pillow to rest for a few minutes. And then all too soon the contractions started again. Rick was beside her in an instant and supporting her through her contractions. About five minutes later, there was another loud wail. The doctor informed them that they had two beautiful little girls.
As the nurse place one in each arm Dee Dee smiled up at her husband and said, “What should we name them, Daddy.”
“How about Evelyn and Elizabeth.”
“That’s perfect, welcome to the world girls. Your daddy and I love you very much and we will always take care of you.”
“You bet we will.”
A few hours later Rick watched as his wife nursed Evelyn for the first and his heart burst with love for this woman. He walked over to her and planted a kiss on her lips and then said, “I love you, mom.”
Dee Dee smiled and returned the kiss before she said, “I love you too, dad.”
The End (they lived happily ever after and all that stuff.)
