(Part 5)

Because of such a long flight to London, the Turnan’s checked into the honeymoon suite in a hotel near town and would take a flight out the next day.
Once they settled in, took in the view of the city lights, and sipped champagne, they decided it was time for a more intimate moment. Alex unzipped the back of Dee Dee’s dress, as she removed the combs and pins from her hair; allowing it to fall softly around her shoulders. As her dress slipped from her body and onto the floor, she remembered the white lace nightgown she’d bought to wear for the occasion.
“Wait just one minute. I want to get something out of my bag.” Within minutes, she had disappeared and returned from the bathroom wearing the nearly transparent garment.

Alex; who was now stripped to his underwear, smiled at his lovely bride in white.
“Well, that was worth the wait. You look beautiful.” He sat up, and held Dee Dee’s hands, as she settled herself onto the bed. He had been in such an ill mood the day before the wedding, she wondered if he was regretted the proposal of marriage. His actions soon put her mind at ease. She hoped it would always be as special as this time, and her hopes were fulfilled when Alex was so sweet and attentive to her.

After a passionate lovemaking session, Dee Dee felt quite content with her new husband. Before falling asleep, she felt that this was the start of many wonderful moments; she’d share with her husband, Dr. Alexander Jay Turnan.

Home in London

When the Turnan’s arrived at their new home, Dee Dee was pleasantly surprised with the surroundings. Although she’d seen a photo, the lists of rooms and their sizes, the photo didn’t allow her to fully take in the interior of the home. It wasn’t an extremely expensive home, like those of the higher paid doctors and scientists, but it was very nice. The neighborhood; much like some of the suburban areas in California, was two blocks of a cul-de-sac setting for most of Kinsley Research Center employees. As Dee Dee continued to admire the exterior of their home, Alex paid the taxi driver, and soon the couple with carry-on luggage in hand, followed by the taxi driver with more luggage, made their way up the concrete path to the front door and entered their home. On the first floor of the two story home there was the living room that stretched into a semi-enclosed dining room, a den, a half bath, and medium size kitchen, with all the necessary built in appliances and a small laundry area. The second floor contained three bedrooms, and two full bathrooms with one being in the master bedroom. There was carpeting throughout, except for the hardwood flooring in the kitchen, dining room, and bathrooms. The beige carpeting; blending in with the beige painted walls, made the rooms a slightly dull, but Dee Dee already had ideas of how to brighten things up with a few pictures and other odds and ends she’d seen in a catalog. After the tour, they returned to the living room and began discussing their new home.

“How do you like it?” Alex asked.

"I love it." Dee Dee put her arms around his waist. “We’ll be able to make it our home easily.”

Alex replied by taking her left hand, and leading her upstairs to their sparsely furnished master bedroom.
Alex’s bed had been in storage with his other belongings while he was in Africa, and he’d made arrangements to have it delivered and set up for them. To keep the couple from coming home to a bare bed, the mattresses had been covered with plum colored sheets, matching comforter and pillow shams. A large basket containing fruit, cheese, a bottle of chilled champagne and two champagne glasses had been sent to them by the research center, as a gesture of welcome and congratulations. The doctor picked up the bottle of champagne, and Mrs. Turnan laughed as she watched her new husband wrestled with the cork in the bottle. “I think I’ll be really happy here, Alex. I’ve got a wonderful husband, and a great house. I’m so glad you came back for me.” She leaned over and kissed him.

“Dee Dee…” He started with a smile. “I’ll do my best, to make sure you stay happy. I’d like to make a toast….to happiness and success.” After a drink to the toast and a few more sips of champagne, Alex pulled his wife closer to him. She smiled and asked him he wasn’t too tired from their flight. He told her no, and proceeded to kiss her and caress the small of her back. “Are you disappointed about our travel plans?”

Dee Dee smiled and traced his bottom lip with her index finger. “You mean, because I mentioned Paris?” Alex had to start his new job immediately, which meant no trip to Paris, or anywhere else for a while. She was a little disappointed. After all, it was Paris. “It’s okay. It’s still our honeymoon, we’re together, and that’s the whole point of it all.” She kissed him for added assurance. “I’m fine with what we have and I want to make love to you.”

(Six weeks later)

“Hello, Turnan residence.” Dee Dee answered the phone.

“Hi, listen, I won’t be home until late tonight.” Alex spoke in rapid manner. “I’ve gotta go. See you later.”

“Wait a second. This is like…the sixth or seventh time since we’ve been here, that you’ve had to work late. I assumed there’d be times like this, but I didn’t realize it’d be so often and so late into the night. Just how late will you be this time?”

“I don’t know…late.”

“Lately, you haven’t been getting home until after eleven. You are supposed to get off at seven o’clock, aren’t you?”

“It can’t be helped.” Aggravation grew in his voice. “There’s a really important meeting I have to attend, and I have to follow up on some lab work, okay? Look, I don’t have time to talk about this now, I’ll see you later.” With that said, Alex quickly hung up before Dee Dee could say anything else.

She plopped down on the bed with disappointment in her husband’s plans. She was looking forward to a nice dinner with him, and afterward they’d watch “An Affair to Remember”. It’s one of Dee Dee’s favorite classic movies; always one to bring about laughter and tears. Now, she’d have to either watch alone, or put off viewing for another time. Glancing around the room; she realized that pouting wouldn’t get the house in order, so she got up from the bed, and began organizing more of the things she taken from the boxes. After an hour, she quit; figuring that since tomorrow is Saturday, she and Alex could put things away together. (He can at least do that with me.)
On her way out of the master bedroom, she stopped by one of the two empty bedrooms. Just as she’d done on the first day in her new home, she imagined a nursery in that very room, but it would take more than imagination to make it so. It was up to Alex and her to make it become a reality. Coming out of her daydream, she continued downstairs and into the kitchen to make dinner. With Alex working late again, she figured that he would either order in at the office or eat leftovers just as she had decided to do. After a couple of hours of television after her meal, she went up to bed to read and wait for Alex to come home. When he first started working, he’d arrive at home no later than 7:30pm; which included the drive from the office. And lately, Dee Dee has tried to be understanding about the recent and many late nights at work, but tonight when she realized he wasn’t home at 12:42am; she decided to call his office. Just before she picked up the phone; to her relief she heard his car pull into the driveway.

“What are you still doing up?” Alex asked; as he entered the bedroom.

“I was reading. I was just about to call the office.”

“I told you I’d be late, didn’t I?” Alex went into the bathroom, to get ready for bed.

“Yeah, you said that. But you’ve never come in this late before. I just got a little concerned.” The last time she’d worried so much was when Steve worked late nights; sometimes not able to call her right away. She’d be on pins and needles, and always hoped the late night calls weren’t bad news.

After returning from the bathroom, Alex pulled on a pair of pajama shorts and continued the conversation. “You can stop worrying now, I’m home.” He kissed her softly on the forehead. “I’m going down to get a snack. You want anything?”

Dee Dee raised an eyebrow and added a mischievous smile. “Yeah, I want something. But what I want isn’t in the kitchen.” She raised her body on the bed, steadying herself on her knees and pulled Alex’s arm, until he was sitting on the bed beside her. She placed kisses on his neck, ears, and lips. Alex made himself more comfortable on the bed as Dee Dee lay on her back, enjoying the attention from her husband, and anticipated what was to follow. Although they were still at the beginning of foreplay a sudden thought came to her. Alex hadn’t used a condom the last two times they were together.
In previous intimate moments; including before their marriage, he informed her that he’d make sure everything was taken care of, and he did, without her ever having to ask. When she and Rick became very serious in their relationship, they didn’t want condoms to take away from their intimacy, and waited until she was able to see her doctor for the Depo-Provera shots. Receiving one every three months was her choice, over the less convenient daily pill. She was due for another shot over two weeks ago and wanted Alex to be fully aware, that they were at risk of gaining the titles of Mommy and Daddy. “Do you…have any…?” The growing passion within distracted her and caused her words to become stumbling blocks. “Umm…..Alex…” After a few moments, and catching a quick breath, she reminded and questioned him. “Alex. You know I haven’t had a chance to see the doctor. What if I get pregnant? Are you ready for that?”
Alex didn’t answer. He continued to kiss her, sliding the straps of her nightgown, off of her shoulders, and made a trail of kisses down toward her breasts. Dee Dee was feeling the moment, but still wanted to be sure of how Alex felt about the possibility of immediate parenthood. She wanted a baby very much but wasn’t sure of the timing. She was becoming more aroused, and sighed at the touch of his lips on her breasts, but couldn’t let go of the questions. “Sweetheart, I hate to stop you….” She could feel the tingling sensations flowing through her body. “But…” She caught another quick breath before continuing. “Do you have any protection?”

Alex stopped her from talking, by placing his mouth over hers. He moved his lips from hers, quickly enough to say four words. “Don’t worry about it.”

Dee Dee felt more at ease, knowing that he didn’t mind a pregnancy so soon into the marriage. She let her mind relax as much as her body did.
Alex’s left hand, glided across the pale peach nightgown, which clung to his wife’s curvaceous figure. The silken fabric was soon lifted above her knees as Alex’s hand made its way over her right thigh. He positioned himself directly over her, as he became more aroused with the touch of her skin. Dee Dee; doing some exploring of her own, ran her fingers through his hair, and let her hands slowly glide down his back. Alex’s mouth met with hers, their tongues added to the passion and the kisses grew more intense, as did their caressing of each others bodies. Dee Dee could feel Alex hardening against her and she tugged at the elastic waistband, on his shorts. Alex let his fingers slip further underneath the nightgown, finding the lacy trim, of the panties that encircled his wife’s upper and inner thighs. As she tugged more at his shorts; pulling them off of his body, Dee Dee whispered two words. “Now, Alex.”
She raised her upper body, just enough for Alex to slip her nightgown over her head. As soon as the gown was off, Dee Dee raised her hips, to allow her husband to slip her panties from her body. She could feel the tingling sensation rush over her, as Alex’s naked body hovered above hers. Dee Dee offered an invitation, and Alex accepted. Instead of a gentle entry, he quickly thrust himself inside his wife. Dee Dee was surprised by the indelicate act, and on instinct, she tensed up.

“Relax, Dee Dee.” Alex told her, as he tried to combine their movements.

After a few minutes, Dee Dee was able to relax more, and join the rhythmic body movements of Alex’s; feeling comfortable enough to wrap her legs around his waist. Twice more, he caused her tense up, before both reached simultaneous climax. Afterwards, Alex lay on his side of the bed drifting off to sleep, as Dee Dee snuggled beneath the covers. She wanted to talk to Alex about how forceful he’d been with her; including the way he pinned her hands against the mattress with his own hands. She wasn’t comfortable with these actions, but thought maybe she was just tired, and it only seemed that he was rough with her. She even told herself, she was comparing him to Rick, and she’d just have to realize this is a completely different person.
After telling Alex goodnight, and getting no response, she put her thoughts aside eventually fell asleep herself.
***

(The next morning)

After putting away a trunk load of groceries, Dee Dee found her husband still asleep in their bedroom. Annoyed with the fact that he was still in bed, she sat on his side of the bed, and shook his shoulder to wake him. “Alex? Alex, wake up.” He moved only slightly, just enough turn his face opposite hers. “It’s almost noon, and you said you’d finish up with the boxes on Saturday. Today is Saturday, come on.”

“I’m tired. “You do remember what time I got home last night….don’t you?”

“Well, I’m tired too, and I’ve been trying to get this house organized, all by myself. It’s been three weeks since these boxes arrived, and almost all of your stuff is still packed in them.” Feeling more than annoyed, Dee Dee stood up from the bed. “I offered to put some of your things up for you. You’d get to it is what you said then, and you’re still saying that!”

“That’s because only I, know how, and where I want my things to be put away!” Aggravated with his wife, Alex got up and stormed to the bathroom. “Since I won’t be getting any sleep, I might as well get up!” He slammed the bathroom door behind him as
Dee Dee just shook her head in frustration. She glanced down at Alex’s pillow, and saw a reddish-brown spot on it. Picking up the pillow for a better look, she saw that the stain was blood.

“Alex? It looks like you had a nosebleed last night. Did you know?”

“It’s no big deal!” Alex shouted from the bathroom “I’ve had them before! It’s just sinuses and allergies!”

“Alright.” Dee Dee didn’t put much more thought into it, since Alex wasn’t worried. Deciding to dress more comfortably, she changed her clothes; putting on white leggings and a red and white striped short-sleeved top. Once downstairs in the living room, she sat on the sofa; looking through the newspaper’s used car section. New would be nice, but also out of the question since she intended to pay for it herself. If she would patient enough to wait for the money Rick would send, she might be able to buy a new car. But, being without a car for much longer would mostly likely drive her crazy. Alex wasn’t too keen on letting her borrow his. When he did, he’d always make inspections before and after she used it; checking for any scratches and calculating the mileage. Taxi’s and buses were both expensive and inconvenient. She needed her independence; to be able to just jump in the car and go when and where she wanted at any time.
Thirty-five minutes after she picked up the paper, Alex came down the stairs wearing a pair of black pants, and an ash gray pullover sweater. As he started out the front door, Dee Dee stopped him with a question. “Where are you going?”

“Out….obviously.” He answered dryly.

“What about the boxes?”

“They’ll still be here when I get back.” Without any concern, Alex walked out, closing the door behind him. Two hours later, he returned to find Dee Dee with her arms resting on the edge of the sink, as she looked out the kitchen window. Without turning to face him, asked her first question. “Alex, where did you go?”

“I had to take care of something.”

“Like what?” With a fair amount of controlled anger, Dee Dee sat at the table, tracing the edges of the placemat tips of her index fingers. “Why is it that you always go out, but we never do? I’m tired of only going out because I need to buy groceries, or something. There’s more to London than a shopping plaza and I want to see it.”

Before replying to his wife, Alex got a soda from the refrigerator, went to the living room plopped down in the recliner. “Now, you know I don’t have time for sight-seeing, Dee Dee. I have to work.”

Dee Dee sat in the chair across from him. “I know you have to work, but not on Saturday and Sunday.”

“True, but if I want to hang out with the guys and play cards, or watch a game… I will. It’s my free time, and you don’t have to make a big issue out of how I use it.”

“It’s an issue, alright. And it’s one that we need to talk about.”

Alex wanted to avoid the discussion, and made an escape toward the kitchen. As he was leaving the living room, he accidentally kicked a box; almost falling over it. “Damn it! Why is this box right here?!”

Dee Dee rolled her eyes and answered. “Ummm.......maybe, it’s because you haven’t moved it or the others yet?” She couldn’t resist adding a touch of sarcasm. “Didn’t you know boxes generally don’t move themselves out of people’s way?”

Alex knew she was right, with or without sarcasm, but he’d never admit it to her. Without a verbal response, he continued on to the kitchen.

“Alex. If I have to follow you throughout the house….I will. I have more questions that you need to answer.” Alex looked towards the doorway of the kitchen, as he heard Dee Dee getting closer. “Why is it that you have time for your friends, but not for me?”

“And what do you mean by that?”

Resting her elbows on the countertop, Dee Dee continued. “What I mean is…have I done something to make you angry with me? You hardly ever talk to me and you seem to be avoiding me a lot.”

Alex sighed with annoyance. “Why are you exaggerating? You’re just making a big deal out of nothing.”

“No, I’m not. I just think you should spend more time with me. You don’t feel the same way?”

After another sigh and a long pause, Alex had questions and a solution. “You want to do something? Go somewhere? We’ll go out tonight. We can go to dinner, and to a movie. Does that sound okay?”

Dee Dee thought the idea was more than okay, and smiled with a reply. “Yes, it sounds fine.” She wrapped her arms around Alex, and gave him a gentle kiss on the lips. “Since its Saturday, that means we can stay out late, and sleep in late too. I’m really looking forward to it. ”

That night, the two enjoyed themselves while out, as well as after coming home. When they made it to the bedroom, Alex sat on the bed beside Dee Dee; lifting her head towards his with two fingers, and began kissing her softly on the lips. Soon they were undressing one another, and quickly slipped in between the covers, growing more passionate with every second. Before the moment became any more intense, Dee Dee had a sudden thought of the how Alex was a little too forceful, the night before. To her relief, she was soon put at ease as he demonstrated more tenderness with her, as he’d done in the past.
Afterwards, she fell asleep in her husband’s arms. She had no clue that this would be the last time she would feel any happiness from this marriage.
