Concerned Student

The University of Papua New Guinea the so called, Premier Univesity of the South Pacific is still dragging behind in terms of infrastructure. The Dorms, equipment used at he University are so old that it can't be used. The worst image of this can be seen of the Michael Somare Library. The books in the library are so old. Last time I was doing an assignment on Petroleum agreements and the latest article in the library was one an article in 1990. Come on get real, some of the international and National High Schools in Port Morebsy have facilities way suprior and make UPNG look like an elementary school somewhere in the bush. Secondly, the UPNG does not have internet access. All Universities accross the globe have internet access so that students attending univeristies can keep up with development and have access to mine of information. To aggravate this situation UPNG does not even have a computer lab. Recent media coverage on the state of the University was mentioned in todays paper and the Minister for Higher Education said they were working on it. It's easy for them to say that when they are sending their children overseas for tertiary education. How can we develop the country when our infrstructure is in shambles. The library books, not enough accomodation, no TV on campus no internet on campus. This place is like a friggen High school somewhere in the Bush. The Politicians seem to turn a blind eye since they have money to send their children overseas.

UPNG has over 6 computer labs, over 500 computers for students and high-speed Internet access for some years.

Get your facts straight and stop talking nonsense.

does that place have access to online journals and databases, of the likes of Proquest, Springerlink, Science Direct.. etc... If not what a waste of money on 2000 new books that are old before they get of the printers.....

that Somare library is following the footsteps of its wan name... both are past their prime heading for the trash can...

WOW over 6 computer labs, 500 computers with high speed internet and I never used one school ownd computer once in my two yrs at this institution!('cept for CLN of course where I usu had to share with a partner.) Is this the same UPNG ur braggin bout?? Not once did I type an assignment, surf the net or even play a game of Freecell with these so called facilities ur boastin. Okay so there's a whole bunch of brand new flat screens sittin in the lib..so phukin what???!! They'r no good till a couple more lame excuses from the Admin and govt. There should be no excuse to providing the best for the cream of the nation who aren't fortunate enough for overseas education. UPNG IS IN SHAMBLES get YOUR facts right.
