these were the so-called next generation leading actresses (together with Ru Xiu Ling) after the 2 Lins and chen chen. Not all of them were successful of course.
I spoke about Ru Xiu Ling. Let's see if I can analyse the few names you mentioned below:
- Wu Hui Zhong - fame through her first movie "Huan Yen". She subsequently went on to do a few movies such as Xun Meng de Hai Ji with Kenny Bee, Wan Jian Xin Wen with Charlie Chin, but no major successes, before she then moved on to the HK film industry and did some action movies like "Fang Shi Yu" with Xiao Fang Fang and other policewomen roles. She had not teamed up with any other leading actresses, except in the movie "Feng Siu Er Shi Nian", where she worked with Chen Chen.
- Ying Chai Ling - was onced crowned as the next lin ching hsia. She did have some of the qualities but in terms of acting, she was not as natural or "fang", and her roles tend to be limited. She had a few successes in the box office like "Yi Si Liu Sui" with Zhang Guo Chu and "Mei Li Yu Ai Cho" with Kenny. She appeared together with Lin Ching Hsia and Jiang Ling in a woman's movie called "Zhong Guo Nu Bing". That was a mega cast movie shown during chinese new year about a group of girls played by Lin Ching Hsia, Ying Chai Ling, Jiang Ling, Xia Ling Ling and Ru Xiu Ling joining the army. Their teachers at the academy were big names like Tang Lan Hua, Gui Ya Lei, Ivy Ling Po, etc. Loved this movie. You should get hold of the DVD.
- Jiang Ling - again, Jiang Ling had a few successes in the box office. Her first hit was "Wo De Xiao Mei" made famous by the song, which had a film title called Ran Shao Ling Dian Chi Du, costarring Kenny and Lan Yi Li. She did a few other countryside movies with Li Dao Hong and with Kenny (He Pan Ching Cao ching - which was a heartwarming movie and one of her last). She only teamed up with Lin Ching Hsia in Zhong Guo Nu Bing. Jiang Ling subsequently stepped out of the limelight after her marriage. I understand she gives music tuition now.
- Wang Chuan Ru - I already mentioned her in my earlier email.
- Liu Lan Xi - not really a leading actress, as she had not starred in a movie by herself where she could attract the audience to the box office. She teamed up with Ru Xiu Ling in Chue Shang Xin To and Ju Shan Liang Yi Yi. No major unforgettable movie moments from her. She released some albums, but had always been somewhat blue and black but not purple.
- Wu Guan Chen - not really a leading lady, worked with Ru Xiu Ling in one of last Qiong Yao movies "Wen Xie Yang" and played a big part with Alan Tam in "Jia Ru Wo Shi Jen De" but was never a mega star. She is also quite wooden in her performance.
- Chu Hai Ling - a cute looking girl, played little girl parts. She teamed up with Lin Ching Hsia in "Jin Chan Hua" - also starring Chin Han and Ma Yung Ling. Good movie, and her performance was refreshing. She did not land any mega parts after that though. She did produce a few country songs album.
- Xie Ling Ling - she actually belongs to the earlier generation. She started her career as a child star in the 60s opposite Tang Pao Yun and Wang mo Cho. She came back in the 70s and tried a few times to play leading actress roles but not much success. Her more memorable roles are in movies like "Yue Meng Long Niao Meng Long" or Misty Moon with Lin ching Hsia and Chin Han. She also teamed up with lin and Chin Han in "Yen Er Jai Ling Shao". She teamed up with Lin Feng Chiao in "Wang You Cao" and "Jai Xing". She did not work with Chen Chen as far as I can recall. She took on solo roles as leading actress in "Wu Mang Mang" with Liu Shang Qian which was a flop, and with Chin Han in "Xi Yang Shan Wai Shan" which did not do well in the box office but featured lovely songs from Ji Pao Ru.
think I have written too much. but hope that I have given you a flavour of the A- and B grade actresses in the 70s.
