there were so many 70s movie soundtrack singers. some were successful some were not. Some came with a bang but sizzled down very quickly. Some were successful in the early 70s and tried to make a come back but failed. One of such examples I can remember is Wan Sa Lang. I am sure you will remember Wan Sa Lang's powerful voice in the title tracks of movies Feng chong na li lai and Hai Ou Fei Chu. However, with new singers like Liu Wen Chen, Fei Yu Qing, Xu Wei, Gao Ling Feng coming on stream, the audience's taste changed and Wan Sa Lang had fewer followers. I remember he tried to make a come back with the song he sang for the movie "You Lan Jai Yu Chong" starring Lin Ching Hsia and Alan Tang. Film was directed by Lo Ma. The title track was also performed by Tian Lu Lu, who was a shining star then. Wan Sa Lang sang the cha qu "Xiang Yu" or "Meet again" in the movie. The song was written by Gu Jia Hui, very nice and touching song. But the audience did not support the album of Wan Sa Lang. We did not hear much of him after that.
Another power singing trio of the 70s movie soundtracks was "Yuan Yeh Shan Chong Chang". Do you remember them? They performed lovely tracks from the following movies:
- Hai Yun - songs like Chi De Wo Chi De Ni were written by Gu Yue. The movie starred Xiao Fang Fang and Chin Han - another great movie.
- Sui Lian Yi - starring Chen chen and Alan tang.
- Wei Sen Mo Ai Shang Ni - starring Chen Chen and Alan Tang. The unforgettable song they did was "Wei Chen Liu Xia Di Ji" which is still today one of the classics.
- Pan Shan Piao Yu Pan Shan Qing - starring Tien Niu, Charlie Chin, Han Xiang Ching. The soundtrack also featured Feng Fei Fei. But I loved the song version by the trio.
- Ai Qing Duo Piao - starring Tien Niu and Alan Tang. great movie, I just watched it on VCD recently. Enjoyed the film and songs. There were several songs also performed by You Ya. Yuan Yeh Trio sang the song "Ai Xi Zhi Ji" in the movie - fantastic.
- Dong Pian Qing Shi Xi Pian Yu or Come Rain come shine - the movie starred Tang Pao Yun, Charlie Chin and Jenny - great comedy of early 70s. also shot Jenny's career to success with the songs.
- Yu Chong Xing or Walk in the rain - movie starred Tang Pao Yun and Charlie Chin - sad movie but lovely title track also performed by Jenny. Yuan Yeh's version is also classic.
I may have forgotten some movie soundtracks but these are some of the successful ones. Notice that all the songs they performed for movies were written by Gu Yue, with whom they have a strong relationship. They are one of the only all time classic trio who have performed so many 70s movie songs.
The trio ultimately did an album singing Chinese Folk songs but disappeared from the scene.
