Kudos to David for implementing this message board!
I am a composer studying & using Parts writing principles. I hope to network with others in order to find a composition mentor, to get feedback from others and to obtain study materials. Besides Hillier, I have found 2 valuable graduate
thesis at the local U. of C. in Boulder. The first, 1999, Comp processes in
Te Deum by Marcia Marchesi is both a first class analysis, as well as a
model for other Part analysis. she dedicates it to prof Kurt Schwertis,
probably from her school in Wien. I loved especially her analysis, but there
is more to discover, of his formulae for chant construction in Te Deum. the
other is a good, early, 1993 study of Passio by Rosalyn Schenbeck.
I would like to network with anyone else who has searched or found other thesis
about Part's music? I was only able to look at the last 2 years of
Dissertation abstracts on line finding only one piece about his organ music.
This has been a gold mine at the only school I have tried. There is a
teacher there, Richard Toensig, who is a Part enthusiast. Does anyone know other other
Comp professors of like mind/
Are there any working newsgroups discussing Part?
I have a recording (sampled voices or winds for now) of my first 2 pieces based on the
Kyrie and Veni Sanctus Spiritus of the Berliner Messe as well as the
acrobat scores.
Thanks again,
Dana Harden

I'm an italian student, and I'm trying to write my thesis about Part's music. Now I'd need to read Peter Quinn's Thesis and his study about the links with Russian orthodoxy through the use of the bells; but in Italy it's difficult to find.
Do you help me?
Ciao e buona musica di Arvo Part a tutti!!!
