Hi, I'm doing an analysis of Fratres (specifically the piano and violin version), and was wondering if any one has some good ideas to jump from. It's for a private course with a very open minded professor. I chose the piece, and the analysis is aimed at, if not expected, at being very modern. Dealing with attributes such as rythmic connsonance and dissonance etc.

I'm hoping to find some some other writings on it to springboard from.

thanks all.

ciao from montreal.

aleos, check and see if a library near you has the book "Arvo Part" by Paul Hillier, published in 1997. It is an excellent comprehensive study. Another approach to "Fratres" is to analyze it in the context of other stylistically similar composers such as Glass, Tavener, Gorecki.

You may want to look at the metrical divisions over time. Part sometimes seems to have a numeric formula that dictates how long phrases are, when new sections enter, etc.

Thanks again guys.

There is a link to an excellent analysis of Fratres(string orchestra and percussion) on the "Analyses" link at the bottom of the page.
