Has anyone stayed at the Grand Canyon Camper Village? Did you have a negative experience?
We stayed there in April, under the Shingle of our AAA membership. This was the first campground that we were in for 7,000 miles that refused to let us hook-up first to insure everything worked. Due to the weather and time of day,we paid the $46.00. To make a long story short, we moved to 3 different sites in an attempt to find one that had all of the connections working. The 3rd site had a large board with nails sticking straight up, (lucky I was outside and saw it) along with sanitary napkins lying around the space. My husband decided enough was enough. We went back to the office, and after waiting 45 minutes for the owner/operator to appear, we left. Again, due to weather conditions, we parked in a strip mall. Wandered around, and talked to some of the locals. We learned that this is an ongoing thing with this guy. He doesn't refund, and because of the handy location to the Grand Canyon, limited camping areas, someone else will take your spot eventually. Making it so that he gets to rent the same space at least twice. Maybe more.
Granted, a 'no refund' sign was posted, (should have been our first clue)so it will eleminate his doing anything illegal, although unethical is another story. I think other RVer's have the right to know.
I would like to locate other RVer's with like instances at this RV Park, as I would like to write a letter to the Chamber of Commerce of Grand Canyon Village along with one to the Park Service. From my understanding, there are several more people who had problems, including a family from New York. I would just like to know of the experience so that the Chamber and Park Service is made aware of what is going on with this person.
I listed a complaint with our AAA headquarters to learn later that the Campground no longer was AAA approved. That AAA sign should have been removed some time ago. That complaint has been forwarded to their(AAA) legal department.
Thank you,
