Response to Re: Tok stret |
| Hello Wantok, it's true that none of our soldiers are employed with the British Army. One of the local papers here in England, which carried the story of the Fijian soldier of the Black Watch who was killed in Iraq, also revealed that Fijians have been fighting along side the British Army for almost 50 years or so. The Fijians compare in some ways to the Gurkas of Nepal.
Any recruitment of PNGDF soldiers would have to be organised at the level of Defence and Foreign Affairs Ministries. I dont know whether these particular ministries have pursued anything along those lines. I am encouraged to see that you would like to try and have our wantok and friend get into the British Army.
I am here on a work visa issued to me by the British High Commission in Port Moresby after I provided them the original copy of my work permit. The visa costs a hefty K450.00 |
