Unless you are very, very dark, people can tell we are not from Africa. People can tell we are from a tropical island country. Our complexions, hair and skin color are different! Our accent is different for sure!! I'm an highlander and not once have I been mistaken for an African. I talk fondly of PNG and all the good things about PNG to my work colleques - & Brit family. Speak of the tropical rain forest to the mountains & hills ofthe highlands, to the white sandy beaches with palm trees etc. Once family & freinds watched an homemade cam coder recording of my village, I took while on hoilday in my village & every place visited and people couldn't believe the paradise we live in!! Most of my work colleques ask me what I'm doing in such a miserable & cold country! The media is powerful & can protray a bad picture of a country or an individual but until they have a personal experience with a PNGn, like in my case & really get to know you as a person, that is the perseption they'll have of our country. Every time I talk to my work colleques about home, they always go 'wow! Am proud of my origions as PNGn & highlander.
I find that- only ignorant & narrow minded people here don't know anything about PNG. Most knowlegeable people, do know where PNG is!
