Sorry I should proof before submitting - Trail No. 4 (Harney-Sylvan Lake Trail) FROM SYLVAN LAKE DOES connect to Trail No. 9 and DOES leads to Mt. Harney. The South end of the old loop CATHEDRAL SPIRES no longer connects to North portion of Trail No. 4 (two separate spurs) and CATHEDRAL SPIRES (Alt. Route I - Holmes) is not an option to get to Mt. Harney w/o going off trail.
Sorry - hope that is clearer. I guess the morale is don't 2nd guess the sign at the trailhead.
