Sex scandal
By HARLYNE JOKU
THE Department of Foreign Affairs and Immigration will investigate claims that a certain PNG diplomat is alleged to be involved in a sex scandal, luring professional women and underage children into a PNG High Commission office abroad and sexually abusing them, it was alleged in Parliament on Friday.
The PNG Head of Mission is further alleged to have ordered a Papua New Guinean citizen in that country to be detained without charges for two years because of the officer’s knowledge of the diplomat’s immoral activities.
The officer is said to have collapsed in the detention centre due to lung failure and the Rotary Club in that country is taking care of him and monitoring his condition.
THIS was revealed in Parliament by the Member for Lagaiap-Porgera Philip Kikala during Question Time on Friday.
Mr Kikala said he had necessary correspondences from the president of the country’s national Rotary Club to confirm that the Head of Mission was involved in these activities.
Mr Kikala said the Head of Mission had directed the immigration commissioner of that country to have their police detain the Papua New Guinean.
“I am also reliably informed that several Members of Parliament, including the Secretary for Foreign Affairs and representatives of our major international development partners, are aware of the activities of the Head of Mission in that country,” Mr Kikala said.
He said heads of missions are ambassadors of the people of Papua New Guinea abroad and are supposed to uphold the pride and dignity of PNG and its government and people.
“Mr Speaker, when the issue of pornography and rape are indeed of bitter and awful taste, it is hard to believe that one of our many committed Papua New Guinea’s trusted people within the circles of heads of mission abroad is said to be promoting these satanic and evil activities in foreign countries which is a big disgrace to PNG,” Mr Kikala said.
He asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Sam Abal to investigate the matter and direct staff of that embassy to repatriate the PNG citizen whose health status is deteriorating.
Mr Abal said he was surprised by the allegations raised and was unable to make comments until a proper investigation is carried out.
He said if the investigations prove that the allegations are true, then they will take action on the Head of Mission.
