Ok. I’m sick, but I just love reading about girls in school detentions. So, let’s have your stories, and if you can bung in a bit of corporal punishment as well, then so much the better!

Girls in detention
May not keep with convention
But within our sanatorium
Methinks it's time to break decorum

What an interesting topic - well, to some of us, at rate. Though I sadly have no first-hand school CP stories to share I do have a number of detention stories. Unlike CP, however, it seems that receiving detention does not stick in one's memory quite so well - but there are a few instances of detentions that do.

One such instance occurred when I was about 15. An unexpected incident gave me cause to write on my desk. I won't say what the incident was, or what is was with which I wrote, or else you might start to find me a little odd. At any rate, I wrote on my desk, and after attracting the disconcerting looks I was hoping for from my classmates I furtively left the room at the end of the lesson.

Very shortly thereafter, a friend of mine explained that Mr K wanted to see me immediately after school in his classroom. She, like Mr K, was somewhat disgusted at me, because he had made her clean off the graffito. I say 'made', but he probably sweet-talked her into doing it. I doubt this would have been very difficult for him to do. You see, Mr K was by far the handsomest teacher at our school. Given the slim pickings of male staff members, this isn't really saying much. But to a few hundred teenagers with raging hormones he was no doubt the object of many, many fantasies.

Except mine. I never really cared for him. As I became better aware of my sexuality in adulthood I understood why; but even when I thought I should be attracted to men he just wasn't my type. No doubt this was because Mr K's intellect was not quite equivalent to his looks, for whatever they were worth (quite a lot, apparently). He was – how do I put this euphemistically? – a little Georgic, and not in the Virgilian sense. This being the case, I loved trying to put him through academic torments at every opportunity, a skill I was already beginning to perfect. In fact, certain psychologists who study nascent fetishes might even argue that there was indeed a strong sexual dynamic between us and I was 'bratting' him.

But Mr K remained as nice as ever to me - perhaps especially so - and put up with an awful lot of cheek from me in his lessons. He drew the line, though, at inscribing _________________ with ______ on one's desk. It might be no coincidence that this incident coincided with the age at which I was reasonably certain the potential of me getting spanked at home no longer existed (all the same, I'm glad he didn't call my mum). At any rate, devoid of cane, slipper, ruler, strap, or any other means with which to extract instant obedience and remorse, poor old Mr K resorted to the only means of recourse the emaciated teachers at our school had: DETENTION! (oohhhh, how scaaaaaarrrry!).

Well, I didn't want to waste my time sitting in an empty classroom after school. Why should I put up with that? For some reason I was a bit delayed leaving school that afternoon, but I figured I still had a clean get-away (like he wouldn't have got me the next day...). Then, suddenly, to my great embarrassment, on the tannoy, I heard Mr K's baritone voice stating 'would Stephanie ________ please come to the office immediately!'. It wasn't spoken with an innocuous sort of 'we need you to sign something' tone, or the apprehensive, regretful 'your mother just died' tone, or an enthusiastic 'you've just finished top of the class again' tone. No, it was spoken with the distinct 'now I'm thoroughly pissed off tone'. Well, as pissed off as Mr K could be.

For all his mental shortcomings, Mr K was one of the nicest chaps you could meet. Rumour had it he was a very serious Christian and a teetotaller. I also remember him once making a reference to having smacked his little daughter when she was very naughty - something I found merely very interesting, though the thought of being in his daughter's place probably made certain of the other pupils dripping wet. Whether or not he would have spared the rod were teachers allowed to whack is a very good question. He tried noticeably hard to treat us like adults (something I very much took advantage of ... and no doubt acting like our intellectual peer was not difficult for him). Also, despite displaying absolutely no prurient interest in the skirted beauties before him every day, he did clearly like to be popular amongst his youthful female company. So my guess is he would not have used CP even if the option were available. Perhaps I should be more grateful. A fit, 15-stone, younger teacher like him could have been one hell of a slipperer.

I really couldn't imagine him angry, but as I trudged over to the office, having determined that it was best not to try to sneak off now, I discovered that he could at least try his best. And he did indeed try his very best to act stern, not believing my attempt to play dumb about why I didn’t come see him right after school, and asking some embarrassing rhetorical questions about how on earth I thought I could get away with leaving 'that' on my desk, etc., all as I shuffled my feet and looked at the floor. With Mr K's limited vocabulary soon expended on synonyms of 'disgraceful' and 'appalling' he then took me the classroom nearest the office, often used for occasions such as this, where he deposited me at a desk and then left.

I think the detention was 30 minutes but I can't remember for sure. In fact, I can't even remember if there was anyone else serving detention in that particular room with me, as there sometimes was, on this occasion or not. If not, I probably just read; if there was I probably passed the time chatting with whomever was there. Poorly supervised detentions were actually a great way to meet like-minded people.

I remember wondering after the required time had expired if Mr K had forgotten all about me, and if I should simply make my own way out the door. Thankfully I didn't, and he soon turned up to admonish me one more time, as I smugly tried to brush him off as impolitely as I could get away with now that I had served my rather un-distressing penance. Had I been more appreciative, I might have borne in mind that many teachers would have brought such a miscreant to the immediate attention of the headmistress. Had I known what I know now I would have borne in mind that at some schools I'd be walking home with thick, painful weals rubbing against my knickers. But being who I was I straightened my slender frame and walked haughtily away from his large but unimposing presence, proud that on this particular day I was perhaps the naughtiest girl at school.

So, are there others who might care to share the story of one of their most memorable detentions, now that the CP forum has been closed? Or perhaps you would simply care to comment upon what such behaviour would have earned at your school?

The Detention of Steff

November 12 2002, 7:37 PM

Thank you, Steff, for this wonderful story. I know you also have another one that took place five years previously.

Not having had the benefit of a classical education, or much education at all at the Penn, I do not fully understand the reference to ‘Georgic’. Is this in any way connected with retired headmaster George, leader of the Pants Club? Living by a lake, he could perhaps be described as rustic.

I pray that the fantasists will not attempt to ruin this extraordinary off-topic topical topic as they have done with several spanking and knickers threads. I do not want to read the ‘I was kept in school detention for forty-eight hours’ type of story. Just twenty minutes is enough to get me excited.

Now that this forum has closed, I hope it does not give the impression of being a sanatorium.

Re: The Detention of Steff

I have long been a spanking, knickers and BASTARDS fetish BASTARD, but this thread has set me off on a new path. This closed-down forum is one of the few places on the Net where one can be accepted for what one really is. I had thought of writing to Mrs. Nee-Trembling about DETENTIONS for schoolgirls, but am told that lately she has taken a turn to the right and is now advocating the birching of six-year-olds who steal from Woolworths and may not appreciate the powerful weapon of DETENTION that our teachers have in their armoury of sanctions.

Fran of Wembley and former moderator Nichonettes have been entered in my BUTCH AND BITCH BOOK.

Georgic

November 12 2002, 8:42 PM

The Latin poet Virgil wrote a series of poems called the Georgics (from the Greek georgos, "farmer") on how to manage a farm.

Georgic poems, therefore, are concerned with rural business.

Unlike pastoral poems, which celebrate leisure, georgic poems are about people involved in labour - ploughing fields, keeping bees, that sort of thing.

Given that Steff makes clear that her use of the term 'Georgic' is not connected with the above, I think we might usefully conclude that it's a reference to the fake who lives by a lake.

I'm happy to interpret it thus, particularly as the only alternative is to assume that the handsome young teacher was accustomed to sticking in his thumb and saying 'What a good boy am I!'.

And that would be unthinkable.

The penultimate paragraph should, of course, read:

I'm happy to interpret it thus, particularly as the only alternative is to assume that the handsome young teacher was accustomed to kissing the girls and making them cry'.

Bound in Dentention

November 12 2002, 9:05 PM

When I was at junior school I used to imagine that a naughty girl and me would be put in detention together and tied up with rope. It never happened of course. The teachers just used to beat the arse off us.

I am overjoyed at the responses to this topic, especially with the story from Steff. I have read it many times and I am still wondering what is ________ with_________? Is it sex with dogs?

Detention Seeking

November 12 2002, 9:21 PM

I am obsessed with the word “punishment” and detention being a severe form of punishment, I yearn to sneak into a school and hear a nubile young schoolmistress say to a nubile young schoolgirl, “Daphne, you are in detention.”

The problem is that nowadays you can’t get into schools like you used to. They’ve all got digital door locks and/or entryphones and I’m not prepared to say to some nosey old school secretary, “I’ve come to hear Daphne being given a detention”.

The subject of detention has been discussed before on this forum.

‘slipper replaces detention’ by George on June 12 will, I hope, convince members that the retired headmaster is not an uneducated oaf. It is filled with poetry reflecting George’s interest in the language of Chaucer. Examples are:

‘The trouble of boys fell into three groups basicly fore this……..’

‘sever detentions’

‘required to take it on pe short, pants or even on the bare bottom’

‘They werer again very vunerable’

‘I had not banned the use on the baree bottom’

Re: Detention Seeking

November 13 2002, 7:19 AM

Billy,

You're on the right track.

Roger,

I joined Mrs Trembler's group with a gender-neutral username, wary at first that some of my previous writings might not endear me to a moderatrix eager to 'bring back' CP; so I suppose any confusion on her part is understandable. As it is, though, the group - with the exception of one writer who knoweth not how to use squared brackets - is much more about bringing back CP memories and forgotten history, and has in fact left me quite stupefied as to the veracity of all of its Victoriana.

Sarajane is, as might be expected, first to catch on to my implications with 'Georgic', though in this case I was only referring only to intellectual stature and not sexual predilections (at least I think - or hope) in the case of Mr K. Mind you, a Georgic sexual orientation might explain the relative ease with which he stayed out of trouble at our school given the human scenary confronting him daily.

Virgil's Georgics, regrettably, do not have any spanking scenes, though there is a very detailed description of the thorough thrashing of a cow, if that is of interest to anyone - perhaps someone could pass this along to all the Latin readers of the Pants Club:

Exiguus primum atque ipsos contractus in usus
eligitur locus; hunc angustique imbrice tecti
parietibusque premunt artis et quattuor addunt,
quattuor a ventis obliqua luce fenestras.
Tum vitulus bima curvans iam cornua fronte
quaeritur; huic geminae nares et spiritus oris
multa reluctanti obstruitur, plagisque perempto
tunsa per integram solvuntur viscera pellem.
Sic positum in clauso linquunt et ramea costis
subiciunt fragmenta, thymum casiasque recentes.
Hoc geritur Zephyris primum impellentibus undas,
ante novis rubeant quam prata coloribus, ante
garrula quam tignis nidum suspendat hirundo.
Interea teneris tepefactus in ossibus umor
aestuat et visenda modis animalia miris,
trunca pedum primo, mox et stridentia pennis,
miscentur tenuemque magis magis aëra carpunt,
donec, ut aestivis effusus nubibus imber,
erupere aut ut nervo pulsante sagittae,
prima leves ineunt si quando proelia Parthi.

And finally William,

The first blank was a reference to what I wrote on the desk, the second to what I used to write with. No, I did not write 'sex with dogs', I'm afraid. But I'm glad you liked the story, all the same.

Perhaps I could share the story referred to by someone above describing how I got a detention in my last year of primary school? This detention was F/f, which may be more in keeping with my own predilections. Of course we all know that 99% of detention stories one reads on the Internet are complete fabrications, and that 99.9999% of stories of male teachers giving teenage girls detentions at state schools in post-war England are clearly rubbish; but trust me, it really did happen sometimes at my school. And I've even seen some references to it happening in other parts of the country on Friends Reunited, too.

The Punishment of Lavinia

November 13 2002, 6:09 PM

Sat at her desk in the Geography room of St. Caminic’s School for the Daughters of Gentlefolk, Lavinia Palmer gazed at the sparrows that were merrily hopping from one branch to another of an oak tree that had stood for two hundred years in the School grounds.

“I want to be free,” she said to herself. “Free, free, free. I want to be free, like the birds in the tree. But soon I won’t be, and it’s all because of what happened this morning.”

This morning! It seemed like an eternity ago that the Headmistress had announced at the end of assembly that there would be a sudden knickers inspection. A sudden knickers inspection! The words filled her with dread as she realised that today of all days she was wearing a thrilling pair made from the finest white satin instead of the bottle-green knickers that were an essential part of the School uniform. And to make matters worse it was discovered that she was the only girl at St. Caminic’s who was not wearing the regulation underwear.

“Go and wait outside my room,” said the Headmistress. “You will be dealt with most severely.”

Stiff-upper-lippedly, teeth-grittedly, but nevertheless knee-tremblingly, Lavinia walked from the Great Hall and down the long, long corridor that led eventually to the Head’s study.

“What will my punishment be?” she wondered. “Perhaps I will get the slipper”.

Her thoughts then strayed to her brother Toby’s school, St. Pant’s by the Lake. She remembered that wonderful Founder’s Day speech, entitled ‘Slipper Replaces Detention’ which the Headmaster delivered in Middle English to pupils, parents and friends of St. Pant’s. She felt some comfort from recalling his opening words where he had said:

“Whanne that youngen boyn musten slipperened be,
Ful wel I give it ‘em on the botome baree”.

“Oh to be a pupil at St. Pants,” she mused. “For at least then I would know what punishment to expect”.

Re: The Punishment of Lavinia

November 13 2002, 8:37 PM

I was so enthralled by your story, Mzzzzzz Higgins, that I dribbled all over my computer. How will it end, I wonder? Will George be handing out punishment, or will Lavinia be let off with just a severe caning at her own school?

Further to our discussion on our favourite subject, I today solicited from my distinguished colleagues the reasons why they had been given school detentions. I got the usual stuff such as being late for school; being early for school; wanking and calling the French teacher a conte, but one woman said that when asked to give a sentence using the word ‘onomatopoeia’ she replied, ‘Don’t stand on a mat down there, stand on a mat up here’. A bloke told of how he once wrote in an essay, ‘I have a female hairdresser: she likes to blow me dry’. I did not ask how long they were kept in detention, for fear of showing my excitement.

Two Teas in Detention

November 16 2002, 8:17 PM

I am greatly encouraged by the fact that one of our most super writers has described elsewhere this message board as a ‘Detention Fetish Forum’. I am now happy to out myself as a detention fetishist.

Like many readers, I am disappointed that one of our not so super writers has refused to share with us his recipes.

I offer, therefore, my own concoction, ‘Nice Tea for Detainee’ in the hope that it may provide our young people with sustenance in times of need.

Method: take one small thermos flask. Pour in two cupfuls of tea. Add milk and sugar to taste.
Serves one (2-3 hours detention)

The Punishment of Lavinia (Part 2)

November 17 2002, 12:34 PM

It seemed like an eternity waiting there for her punishment. Three, five, ten minutes passed and then Lavinia saw at the top of the long, long corridor the Headmistress who was reading the contents of an envelope handed to her by the School Secretary.

The School Secretary! So she was to be a witness at the punishment! Perhaps it was she who pinned up the skirt of the offender and held her down over the desk while the Headmistress did the slippering, or vice-versa. Lavinia’s mind raced as the two women approached. The Head was ashen-faced.

“Your punishment has been postponed,” she said. “Go to your lesson. I have to attend to a matter of the most critical urgency.”

…………………………………………………………………………………………….

Tight-lipped and tight-kneed (it was said by the girls, although unfairly, that her knees had been together longer than Cliff Richard and the Shadows) the Headmistress sat alone in her study. For the seventh time she read the dispatch that had arrived during assembly. The envelope bore the St. Pant’s School coat-of-arms and the words ‘Privatee and Confidentiale. Bye Hande’ were inscribed with what looked like a gramophone needle dipped in blood. The message inside read:

Them Evangelicals y clept Yahoo hath closen Panten Clubbe today
I hadde hopen to keepe it gwain at leaste while Maye.

Hath closen Panten Clubbe! She stared at the words in disbelief. “Why, oh why, oh why?” she said to herself. “Why, oh why cause to cease the innocent pleasures of a few members, of which her husband, Alec, was such an one?”

Her husband, Alec! Would he know of the closure? And if he knew would he know that she did not know if he knew? She did not know, but one thing was certain: she knew that she must go to him immediately and if he did not know to make sure that he knew. She pictured him sat sitting there, surrounded by the lawns of loveliness in the suburban comfort of their house in Hove, upstairs in his own little room (his ‘Pants Den’ he called it) composing messages about pants that would never now be published.

Yes, her mind was made up! She hurried out of the School with no word of farewell, jumped on her bicycle and then started on the long, long walk to West Worthing Railway Station.

Dear Mzzz Higgins,

I am enjoying reading your saga immensely, but I do wish that you had not hijacked my ‘Girls in Detention’ thread. It’s people like you that get this forum a bad name. In the latest episode you did not mention ‘Detention’ – therefore no mention of detention and it’s not part of the ‘Detention’ thread. Q.E.D.

Why didn’t you start a new thread called ‘Detention and the now defunct Pants Club’? If I want to read about boy’s pants and clubs I will go to the ‘Trickes of the Traderes’ tread.

So put a bit of detention in the next bit, there’s a good chap, or this forum will lose another contributor – i.e. to wit and viz - you.

With all good wishes from

William

The Punishment of Lavinia (Part 3)

November 17 2002, 8:35 PM

She walked briskly, and to shut out of her mind the clatter of Zimmer frames all around her, began to sing to herself something she had heard or perhaps seen somewhere, but where, she could not remember.

“Worthing!
You make my heart sing!
It’s next to Lancing,
Near to Sompting”

“Who used to sing that?” she wondered. “Was it the Troggs, or perhaps the Kinks!”

The kinks! Her thoughts turned suddenly to her husband, Alec. She remembered their wedding night as if it were yesterday. Dressed in only a pair of bottle-green knickers she had said:

“Alec, I want you to slipper me, Alec. I want you to slipper me just like they did in Wembley, Alec.

“No,” he had replied. “No, I cannot possibly, Laura. Not for all the teas in detention. (William – will this do? Ange) Not for all the hearing aids in Hove could I possibly, possibly slipper you. No, no, not possibly, Laura”

“But you must, Alec,” she had implored. “I will bend over and touch my toes and stick my lovely bottom in the air and you will be overcome by base instincts and will slipper me and slipper me and slipper me, Alec.”

“No, not possibly, Laura, unless you were possibly…”

“Yes, Alec?”

“Possibly wearing, Laura, possibly boys’ pants, possibly.

Boys’ pants! That was how it had all started and now Alec was a fully-imprinted pantophile. He showed no interest in women’s knickers, panties, drawers, bloomers, step-ins, pantalettes or knickerettes, but he drooled over boys’ pants. He particularly adored those at Asda, where the brand name was ‘George’.

Laura awoke from her reverie. She could not remember boarding the train, nor it calling at Worthing, East Worthing, Lancing, Shoreham-by-Sea, Southwick and Fishersgate, but there she was, gazing at the shell-suited women standing on the platform at Portslade Station.

The three-minute journey to Hove seemed like an eternity. The bright pink and green of the clothes of the women who had just boarded the train contrasted with the sombre colours of Laura’s thoughts. She imagined that one of them had spoken to her and she had replied in rhyme.

“You look so sad, dear Laura,
What makes you feel so grey?”

“It’s that Panten Clubbe, dear Dora,
It done closed down today.”

But the reality of the constant chatter of the women irritated her. “And so I said to him, dear, I said, didn’t I dear, I said…”

Laura, Headmistress of St. Caminic’s School and wife of Pantophile Alec, sighed with relief as the train pulled into Hove and home.

Detention in the News!

December 31 2002, 7:30 PM

Like George, I am a Daily Mail reader and was delighted to see, in today’s edition, a very super Detention story from which I now quote.

“A schoolgirl who claims being kept in detention violated her human rights is suing education bosses for damages.

Freya MacDonald says she was kept back after classes 11 times in six months for ‘trivial’ offences such as sipping a fizzy drink in lessons.

Now the 15-year-old, supported by her mother, is suing her local education authority, claiming the detentions were unlawful under the European Convention on Human Rights which was incorporated into UK law two years ago.

Miss MacDonald is also seeking compensation for the ‘psychological damage’ she says she has suffered.”

If she wins her case and thereby proves that punishment causes psychological damage, Fran of Wembley could soon be very rich indeed.

Well, this is truly amazing news indeed! I wonder if pupils in more civilised EU countries are ever given detentions? I'll have to study this article more carefully when I'm sober.

Re: Re: Detention in the News!

Hereunder a report from The Northern Scot:

Pupil in bid to scrap detention
By LEANNE CARTER

A SPEYSIDE schoolgirl claims her human rights have been breached by teachers who repeatedly made her stay behind in class for detention.
Freya Macdonald is now mounting a legal action against Moray Council in a move which could have dramatic implications for the Scottish education system.
The 15-year-old, a pupil at Speyside High School, is fighting for compensation and has pledged to take her case to the Court of Session if it cannot be resolved.
Freya sought legal advice after repeatedly serving detention as punishment for a series of “trivial” incidents. In just a few months, she had been ordered to stay behind on 11 occasions.
She now believes that the detention imposed by teachers was illegal under the European Convention of Human Rights, and has recruited one of the country’s top lawyers to fight her case.
“I was getting detention for really silly things,
like taking a sip of something to drink in class. They were taking a half-hour away from my lunch-
time just for something as stupid as that,” said Freya, of Tomnavoulin.
“It was all going down on my record and making me look like some kind of rebel. I didn’t think that I had really done anything wrong, but all this was making me look bad.
“For a start, I just wanted to get the detentions over and done with. But then, when it kept happening again and again, I started to think that it was wrong.”
The fourth-year student became so upset by her treatment that she had to take two months off at the start of the new school term this year – a time when she should have been stepping up her work for exams.
Freya was spurred into taking action after carrying out a survey of friends and classmates, which showed that an overwhelming majority felt that detentions were being imposed for petty reasons.
Many also said they had been made to feel small, that they were scared to give their own opinions and that they should be given the opportunity to defend themselves before a punishment was imposed.
Glasgow-based solicitor Mr Cameron Fyfe, one of the country’s leading experts on human rights breaches, agreed to take on the case and believes Freya has every chance of winning.
If it is conceded that detentions are in breach of Article Five of the European Convention, which states that detention in educational institutions are only allowed where there is a lawful order, then the whole punishment system will have to be overhauled.
Mr Fyfe said schools would simply not be prepared to seek a court order every time they wanted to make a pupil carry out a detention.
He added: “Freya feels very strongly about this and that she was being given detentions for very trivial reasons. She is prepared to go to the Court of Session if the education authority does not concede that it is illegal.
“If we win the case, we may see an end to this form of punishment in schools. Schools will have to find some other, more useful form of punishment such as giving extra homework.”
Freya has the backing of many of her friends and fellow pupils at Speyside High School, as well as her mother, Annie.
Mrs Macdonald said her daughter started arriving home with detentions almost as soon as she started there over a year ago. On one occasion she had been ordered to stay behind for entering the school through an open fire exit, while another time she was punished for telling a boy to stop pulling her hair.
When the punishments started to escalate, the family felt as though Freya was being picked on and encouraged her to stand up for herself.
Mrs Macdonald added: “She told the school that she was not prepared to do detention for something that was not a crime, but their response was to threaten her with suspension.
“The pupils at Speyside High School are generally well-behaved and there is no need for imposing detention for trivial incidents. All children have the right to legal protection from this, not just my daughter.
“Lots of parents are happy to let the school get on with it and just assume that the teachers know what they are doing. But that is part of what Freya is fighting for – the right for kids to have a fair hearing.”
It is understood that the council has not yet received formal notification of Freya’s bid for compensation. She said that, while the money was a factor, it was not the most important thing.
She added: “I am not that bothered about the compensation. The money will not always be there, but if we can put an end to detention it is something that will be there forever.
“I think it will be brilliant if we can change things – I would love to be the next Erin Brockovich.”
A spokesman for Moray Council said that the authority was not prepared to comment on individual cases, adding: “Any letter which is received by the council will be referred to our legal services for attention.”

Girls in detention

February 19 2003, 7:09 PM

I attended a girls secondary school in Ireland in the early 1970s. When I was in third form, Miss Boardman, our form mistress introduced a system of detention. Teachers could punish girls by giving them detention. Detention took place on Thursday evenings for an hour after school. If a teacher wanted to punish a girl by means of detention, she told the girl to remain behind for detention the following Thursday. Detention was held in the same classroom each Thursday. My English teacher once gave me detention for not doing my homework but I did not turn up for detention the following Thursday. The following morning Miss Boardman came in to my classroom. She had a cane with her. She called me to the front of the room and gave me three stinging strokes on each hand.

I would be interested to hear other accounts of detention and other punishments people expericenced when at school.

I am a 16 year old pupil in the UK and regularly receive detentions for things such as not doing homework, talking in class and wearing skirts too short etc.

Corporal punishment is not allowed at the school but detentions are held every evening for 30 minutes after school.

We receive a detention slip that must be signed by our parents before we can serve the detention on the following school day.

detention class is a popular punishment in singapore schools where teachers are not allowed to cane students. so they chose to use detention instead.
