It is good to have a contributor from South Africa. As you may have gathered, most of the members here are English and as such will be unfamiliar with the word ‘tacky’ as an instrument of punishment. Could you possibly elucidate?

Don't get too excited.

It's now been accepted by most on this forum and on Abby's that 'girls' claiming to have had their bums whacked in UK schools are usually men fantasising and typing with their zips undone.

The result is that the fantasists seem to be shifting the scenes of their imaginary whackings to foreign countries, having first done a little research into the methods/instruments/etc used in those far-off places.

We await Anna's story with great interest.

Thye tacky is the name used for the gym shoe. The name was used in many colonies I believe.

I am not a man, not English although I worked in London for some years, I am in fact Afrikaans speaking.

Nothing remarkable in that, you might think, but it's interesting that Anna Potch is a character in the 1952 film noir "The Sniper" which tells of a lunatic serial killer roaming the city and shooting women .

Even more interesting is the fact that, in the film, Anna is played by a man.

Caning was common in South African schools both for girls and boys, tacky is a common expression or gym shoe over there and Potchefstroom the name of a town from whence Anna may have come. Caning was frequently ordered as punishment for males by magistrates, a friend of mine witnessed the caning of three Indian boys during which seven strokes was administered in turn to each boy's bare buttocks. Despite it's frequent use in girl's schools, caning or indeed any form of whipping is forbidden under Roman-Dutch Law. Today all forms of corporal punishment have been outlawed in South Africa which is such a shame as the black buttocks in particular were beautiful. I personally have spanked African maids on their bare bottoms with my hand otk, an act enjoyed by both parties.

I went to school in South Africa, and never heard of girls being caned on their bottoms. I am fairly sure it never happend. It is possible that they were caned on their hands occasionally though. If any of your correspondents can name a school in South Africa, I will use my sources to check whether corporal punishment of girls took place there. I doubt whether you can, though, because it's all fantasy!
