As you may know, there are contributors to this forum who refuse to name their schools and the fladge-mad teachers therein. This is not the case with us poor sods who received the gift of education at William Penn. We ALWAYS name the buggers!
Thus:
Mr. L. is Mr. Liddle, the History teacher. He came from Manchester, or some God-awful place up there, and pronounced the word ‘exams’ as ‘egg-sams’. It was said that he taught a ‘liddle bit of History’.
Mr. M. is Cyril Mould who replaced Bernard Stapely as Head of Music in 1965.
Mr. H. is mad staring-eyed, Bessemer Housemaster, John ‘Peg-Leg’ Hockings.
I am unable to identify the Mathematics teacher, Mr. K.
I hope you have enjoyed reading the posts regarding Faraday Housemaster, Harris. (They can be found under the thread entitled, ‘The Captain’) He left one year after you started at the Penn and was replaced as leader of Faraday by Charlie Frog, who, incidentally, had the same surname as yourself. Are you by any chance related?
Please continue to post any more reminiscences that you have of that hot-bed of culture and flagellation that was built on Red Post Hill and uphold the great tradition that is ours through William Penn.
my real name is not mr davies. i do remember falling foul of him though! mr k. is mr kholi.an indian man.did you know that mr harris was a wrestling referee, and used to appear on i.t.v.on saturday afternoons.he had a fearsome reputatation as a caner. he was not the worst however,a p.e. teacher by the name of mr davies,or davis, had thatdistinction. when ever he was around there was always somebody in trouble.he once threatened to cane our whole class.our teacher had been delayed, and mr davies came into our quiet class to threaten us.we were quite scared at the time.

Dear Mr. Davies,
The welcome from Will Bic, delightful though it was, did not explain why you are now a member of our clique. The answer is simple: anyone who was a pupil at William Penn School is automatically granted membership. Melvin, Billy Biro, Brace and Bit, Miles (now on Brighton Pier), Peter W. and Will Bic all attended the Penn.
In addition to ‘The Captain’ topic, William Penn is also mentioned in several threads, including:
Slippering for ‘fun’; Fun Slippering: what is it exactly; Posture; Of interest to ex-pupils of William Penn School only; Terminology.
We look forward to further contributions from you.
Karen, Advertising Manager – so Darwinian Man, you can sod off!

hello karen. i have been enjoying this forum for a couple of weeks since buying my e mailer.i feel that i must explain to the clique that i had the greatest respect for my teachers. i liked most of them. the fact that i was caned at school does not change this.tell me karen did you ever have a caning during your school days? aswell as caning i also suffered regular smackings, and slipperings.many of these were at the hands of mr sibley my spanish teacher. although painful i think that these may as well be called fun slipperings.i also remember a metal work teacher called mr hope.he caught about four of us smoking behind the shed in the second year playground.as he only saw us from his classroom we had a chance to ditch our fags, and suck mints on our way to his classroom. we got away with it,but he gave me a graphic description of what he would do to me should i ever get caught by him.he then hounded me for the rest of the term.

Dear Mr. Davies,
I am sorry to disappoint you, but no, I did not receive corporal punishment at school, although I saw other pupils being slippered. It is a great pity that Fran is no longer with us. Her stories could stir even the most jaded reader.
Two of the staff you mention, Brian Sibley and John Hope, are referred to as ‘The Galloping Hairpin’ and ‘Hope came to all the boys’ somewhere on this forum. A photograph in which they appear can be found in the Carl and mats briefcase. The address is:
i am intrigued to know where you get all of your insider knowlege.are you married to an ex pupil? by the way thank you for the tip about carlands. i do not remember little frank.could he have been mr oleman? or mr olemans predecesor. mr oleman once caned my pal.... then with the event duly recorded in the punishment book. the said book dissapeared. a couple of terms later my pal went for a second caning.by then the punishment book had been found.mr oleman then caned my pal twice over, because his name appeared twice consecutively.please remind me of other teachers of my time. i thank you.

Dear Mr. Davies,
I have been a devotee of this forum since its inception and all my knowledge of the staff of William Penn has been gleaned from reading the posts here. I know nothing about Little Frank, except that he was a ‘Fun Slipperer’ and nothing whatsoever about Mr. Oleman. I trust that those ex-pupils whose names appear in my message of 3.46p.m. today will be able to provide first-hand information.
In case you had not realised, Carl and Mats are our esteemed moderators. They run a very tight ship.

Dear Mr. Davies,
Once again, I am sorry to disappoint you. My interest in flagellation is purely academic.
It would, I feel, be inappropriate for me to pass any comment regarding our distinguished moderators. They are highly sensitive individuals and will ban contributors for the slightest lapse of good taste. Their latest messages can be seen under the ‘Suggested Reading for Simon Junior’ thread.

Sid and Frank

Sid Oleman was the Housemaster of Ruskin. He is pictured, with his arms folded, in the centre of the photograph. On his left is Head Boy, Alun Lewis and on his right is Little Frank MacDonald.
Little Frank (little man, little slipper) was indeed a Fun Slipperer, although he would not have considered himself to be so. As a member of the Modern Languages Department, he was senior to the Galloping Hairpin and took himself very seriously, but that was before we locked the bugger in his room, having stolen a master key from the Hairpin.

i do not recall mr mcdonald. i do how ever recall mr sibley.as he slippered me on more than a dozen occasions. do you recall which year mr mcdonald left w. penn. i recall mr given my geography teacher caning one of my class mates in the third year.he laid it on. i remember mr sibley being a sort of unofficial discipliarian. he filled in for junior staff when they needed to have a boy caned.

Moderation
February 9 2003, 9:38 AM
Dear Mr. Davies,
The moderatorship of this forum is a complicated issue. I do not think that anyone knows who the moderators are and that may possibly include the moderators themselves. You will get some idea by reading through all the posts, paying particular attention to the following names: Larry; John; Dorothy; Miles on Brighton Pier; Snide Bastard Ralphy; Nichonette(s) and carl and mats.
Please continue with your offer of descriptions of the brutal treatment that you received at William Penn. I should point out, however, that F/f is of more interest to our readers than M/m, although one contributor (I cannot remember who) has expressed a liking for m/M.
