Darwinian Man

Yes, music like that makes me yearn for that old down-home homeliness of a home on the range in the Lone Star State, so this afternoon I took myself down to Mr. Patel’s, there to purchase a bagful of Finger-lickin’-good, Texican-style, Melt-in-the-mouth Belgian Waffles, swimming in sugared water. Mmm…delicious.
Tonight, I shall watch again the uncut version of ‘The Alamo’, and when I hear Big John say,
“Republic: I like the sound of the word – means people can live free, talk free, go or come, buy or sell, be drunk or sober, however they choose. Some words give ya a feeling. Republic is one of those words that makes me tight in the throat; same tightness a man gets when his baby takes his first step; his first baby shaves, makes his first sound like a man. Some words can give ya a feeling that make your heart warm. Republic is one of those words.”
I will be moved to tears. I would have preferred that he used the word ‘freely’ rather than ‘free’, but nevertheless, this remains one of the great moments in cinematic history.
