Does anyone have in their possession a photograph of any of the residents of Burgess Hill? I need one for a school project.

It’s people like Darwinian Man that get this forum a bad name. I’d string him up. It’s the only language his kind understands, and if that didn’t work I’d ban him from our happy circle. |

I have lurked here for a long time and am disgusted at the way Darwinian Man has repeatedly tried to ruin this board and others on the web.
Chuck him/her out!

Under no circumstances will I resign from this exclusive club. I have many, many friends here, despite the recent unpleasantness at Woking.
I would particularly like to thank Roger, Les and family, Gillian, Robin (not Peverett), Karen and all at No.47, with special thanks to the best mum in all the world and not forgetting Uncle Ern and Auntie Joyce.

Dear Brian, This is without doubt the best message board on the Internet. It is a place where one is free to express one’s opinions on the artistic excellence of marching up and down bands from all over the world. It would, however, be even better if you would allow the contributors contributing contributions as contributors to use paragraphs in their contributed contributions. I spent two hours formatting my previous contribution to make the contributed lines of verse stand out from the rest of the contribution, but alas the contribution appears as a single paragraph contribution. As a token of my good faith, may I add that I can triple tongue faster than Maurice Murphy and my lip-slurs are the talk of East Grinstead.

"One day somebody will be named BURGESS HILL".
This may be true, although there appears to be nobody called 'Burgess Hill' in the UK at present.
There are thousands of people with the surname 'Hill' but only 20 people in the UK have the forename 'Burgess' - and none of them is a Hill.
But, one day - who knows?

I have it on good authority that due to the extraordinary rhythms accidentally created by your xylophone basher (13 against 11 for instance), a tuned percussion judge is being wheeled in from East Grinstead. The un-tuned percussion judge will be marking your horn section. Keep marching up and down!

To encourage you even further to move your fat arses, I have written a rhyming couplet for you. I have stuffed it full of rhythmic impetus and you will enjoy singing it as you go off to sell programmes.
Keep marching up and down to the centre
And one day they might let you enter.

Come on you lazy lot, get your feet moving and get yourself down to the centre at 7pm for programme selling tonight. There was only 5 of us last night and we really do need some help, its your band so help us to help you. See you all later.

Stiff, you are a silly woman! By announcing to everyone who reads this board that those poor little mites in the Junior Band are ‘extremely nervous’, you have totally ruined their chances of playing at their best tomorrow. So listen to me, boys and girls. You are not ‘extremely nervous’. You are your mummies and your daddies brave little soldiers who will march up and down in that arena with your heads and your instruments held high, there to show the world that you are the most confident group of young people ever to march up and down. Go to it, children, and keep the name of Rubery respected, loved, revered.

Steph - Friday, June 06, 2003 at 3:16:17 AM
Thanks John, as you know Jane has worked particularly hard with the junior band to get them ready for the competition and although they are extremely nervous they will do us proud because they re brilliant. Good Luck to all of bands competing on Sunday, we hope the rain holds off and that it is an enjoyable day for all! Good Luck Junior band!!!

This used to be the best message board on the Internet, because it was so quiet. I used to sit and gaze at it all day and nothing would happen; it was that exclusive. And now look at it! It’s filled with the ramblings of bandmasters from Constantinople and Thornton Heath, crying parents and Kev. I’ll be back when things have returned to normal. In the meantime, my little ones, keep marching up and down!

Just a note to say well done to both the Senior and the junior band at Halesowen last week. As a parent I was very proud of the Juniors and found it very difficult to keep a dry eye. I must point out that as someone new to the band I was astonished at how so few in the senior band can sound so fantastic, and on speaking to other bands have them tell me that their ultimate goal is to try and gain the same ethos and respect that Rubery has. Once again thank you for making me and my wife so proud.

Congratulations on your well deserved win yesterday, it was a fantastic performance. I don t know who the doubters were but Pete and I never doubted for a moment that you could do it. You are the National Champions and a change of leadership does not change that. As I have always told you, it is the members that are the band not the leaders. Well done to you all. For 15 years I have been proud to be associated with the band, I am still and always will be very proud of Rubery Youth Marching Band.

Well done everyone for all you efforts at the weekend Both days were very hot, but as usual you were brilliant. I am so proud to tell everyone that I am the bandmaster of Rubery. At Halesowen we proved to a lot of people that doubted us that we are still as good as we were last year and can be better. Well done to the junior band as well, but as we are all the same band really you won as well yesterday.

Here is a new song for you. It is sung to that grand old favourite from 1964, ‘My Guy’.
Nothing you could say would make me spend a day in Rubery.
Unless you’re made of slime it’s a total waste of time in Rubery.
To share a single bed with a bed-wetter
Would be at least hundred times much better
Than looking like a clown
And marching up and down in Rubery.

Dear naive Marcus, You claim to have watched the cadet band play. I have an advantage over you for I have actually listened to them play and can say without doubt that they are the finest cadet band in the country. Your comment that they are ‘good for kids their age’ only emphasises your inherent Yorkshire meanness.

Dear, dear Nicola, If the Juniors do not play I shall be writing to Brian about it. Here is a list of things that you need to bring to each rehearsal: Instrument; mouthpiece; a collection of graded corks; sandwiches – and make a day of it. Don’t bother to bring any music. None of you lot can read it.

You cannot imagine my disappointment on reading that the Junior Band are unable to travel to Totton. Those poor little mites have sweated blood in trying to string two notes together and now they have been cast off like an old beer crate. So I say, “Parents (and Kev) unite!" Let us do all in our power to ensure that those little children enjoy the same advantages as the big children. I suggest we hire a horse and cart and drive the tiny tots to this prestigious event ourselves. Failing that, we will march up and down, tootin’ all the way to Totton!
Jane - Friday, September 12, 2003 at 9:58:02 AM
Due to the high cost involved in going to Totton we are sharing a coach with Halesowen Scout Band, therefore we are limited to the number of people we can take, we are only taking the Senior plus 2 others. So sorry the junior band are not able to go to Totton as we have no room on the coach
