Did anyone else ever get punished on front thighs, and if so, with what implement? Its the first time I ever heard of punishment on this part of the body.

As a child I was sometimes slapped on the front of the thigh by the hand of an older family member, but I believe this was because it was simply more convenient than dragging me over their lap. I'm sure this often happened at schools for the same reason.

In my view it is most probable that those responsible for the behaviour described were suffering from the rare but fully documented medical condition physiolexia. First recognised and explored by the eminent neurologist Dr S.L.Apper of the Baden-Baden University Hospital, physiolexia is a sub-condition of the even rarer anthropodysmorphia (q.v.) in which sensor inhibitor and some motor inhibitor phages are found to be either absent or with their Y-line (so called) permanently reversed. The consequence is a series of behaviours generally described as retro-imaged anatomical perception; in non-medical parlance 'getting it arse first.' Or, of course, in these interesting cases, arse last when it should have been first. Steff's explanation, while admittedly ingenious and interesting, is contrary to known medical fact for physiolexics tend towards hyperactivity rather than indolence.

We were hit on the front of the thighs in our chairs at school.

Some years ago at a small government school in country Victoria (Australia) the school master made a point of punishing boys, who wore shorts, on the front of their thighs. I was told this by a boy who attended that school. Boys were required to sit on a stool kept for that purpose, legs together and holding up the hems of their shorts as high as possible. The schoolmaster used an old razor-strop and usually three to six strokes. If a boy was wearing jeans, he received the strap on his hands

On this subject, you should read Sting's biography 'A Sting in the Tale' by Jim Berryman who went to school with Sting. One chapter tells us of a gymteacher who made the boys play Knee Boxing in PE Lessons. This involved pairing the boys off, and each would face his opponent, crouching down, and the aim was to slap their opponent's inner thigh with the palm of their hand! On one particular occasion Sting and his friend who normally just went through the motions, got very carried away, and put on the most violent exhibition of knee boxing ever witnessed. All the other boys stopped to watch in awe and eventually the teacher had to separate them, with their legs looking as though they had been attacked with a wire brush. Maybe this should be made into an Olympic event?

The Senior Mistress in my school use to make us sit down when we were to be caned. We had to hold out our hand, tuck the elbow tight against our sides, then put the other hand behind our backs. The purpose of making is sit like this was to prevent us pulling back our hand to cause the mistresss to miss. If you are sitting down like this is that if you pull your hand back the cane lands on your front thighs, more painful than getting it on your hand. And you had to hold your hand out again for the whack that you missed, so you lost out all round.
