any true story out their about "uniform inspections "
how were they done? and P.e kit inspections,
i can recall being told by a female back in the early
70's while i was at school that all the girls p.e kit had to have there name in it and it got "inspected " while they were wearing it. this comment has stuck with me for ever!!! should have ask aload more question's -dam & blast!!!!!

when I was at school in the 70's all the lads had to line up in the gym for kit inspection. Our gym kit was white shirt shorts socks and pumps. the games master would walk along the line and any lad wearing anything that was not white was told to take a step forward. he would then walk along the back of the line and if he suspected you were wearing your pants or vest he would lift the leg of your shorts at one side or your shorts to check. if you wearing the offending items you were sent to the changing rooms to remove them and when you retuned to the gym the games master checked by pulling the back of your shorts out and looking down ofr lifting your shirt up before you joined the group of lads who had taken the step forward. When He was
sure that he had all the guilty group together they were ordered to line up and wait whist the slipper was fetched this was usualy kept stufed behind the wallbars. the rest of the lads wereordered to sit on the floor
whilst the guilty party went to the middle of the gym , bent over and you had to touch your toes , you were then given the usual 3 wacks which was usualy was one on each cheek and a good hard one across the middle of you bum before been made to stand with you handson your head until the group was finished.These kit inspections were done in the 1st 3 years of secondary school about twice a tearm but after that they went down to maybee once a year
The girls at our school tel me that theyrecieved the slipper if they were caught wearing their ordenary knickers under their pe knickers but I dont know how the games teacher checked.
you also got the slipper if you were last in the gym of last to get changed for the next lesson the slipper was also given in football lessons if you commited a serious foul instead of getting sent off

Knicker inspections were carried out at a high school in North Worcestershire in the 1950’s. These took place, once a term, at the end of morning assembly. The deputy headmistress stood at the front of the hall and the girls paraded past her lifting their skirts to prove they were wearing the regulation navy blue knickers.

I know of no instance where a girl was found to be wearing the wrong kind of underwear. Corporal punishment was not a sanction at this school.

All the above information was told to me by an ex-pupil of the school.

Our pe teacher also did these inspections/slipperings. Last in the hall was whacked too. I think all boys school pe teachers did it

In my second year of secondary school we had a form teacher (female) who used to inspect the state of our shoes every morning (except when it had snowed or rained heavily). If she thought we had not cleaned them, she would send us (boys only school) to the deputy head; if he agreed (SO subjective) he would give us the slipper, upto 6 strokes depending on the state of the shoes. I don't think a single day went by without at least one boy returning to the classroom late and with a bum "like a red-hot potato", as one of my friends once described it!

That woman was, as we say here, a ‘prevert’. You can imagine the knicker-moistening conversations she would have had with the Deputy Head.

I remember the kit inspections well from when I was at school, I also remember touching my toes when things wernt correct and the wack across the arse that followed.
Our PT teacher was obsessed with boys not wearing their underpants under their shorts.
I just wondered if todays games teachers are still as strict about not wearing pants and if so what punisments are used now for the offenders ?

At a boys grammer school 35 years ago we certainly had kit inspections.

PE kit was limited to white shorts and white plimsolls. 3 or 4 times a year we had to line up at the start of pe and our kit was checked, including checking to see if we were wearing pants by pulling the waistband of our shorts out (from the back). If you were caught wearing pants both shorts and pants had to be taken off in front of everyone, with just shorts put back on - naturally you also got a sore backside !

Forgetting kit meant going without, including bare feet outside, and underpants only if you forgot all your kit. Again the teachers plimsoll always came into use.

One lad made a habit of forgetting his kit, eventually the teacher got fed up and made him strip fuly, only for a few minutes, but it got the message across to the rest of us.

The no pants thing under shorts was odd.I never found out why this was rigorously enforced.We had the usual white t-shirt black cotton shorts and white ankle socks.No pants , no vest and yes this was checked out.Non complience resulted in 2 whacks across the bum with the tawse.This seemd harsh but it was the way it was and no one complained when caught.I remeber bursting my black shorts at PE and the race was on to get a new pair for the next week as the tawse would be given for having no shorts.In the sports shop i bought a pair of exceptionaly glossy black satin adidas shorts and thought nothing more about it until i was in the changing room getting ready for PE.Some of the lads were pointing at my new, very shiny shorts and were conculding i would get whacked for wearing them.The Master came in and did his usual kit inspection i could see his eyes staring at my new glossy shorts.I suddenly realised my shorts were more than a bit shiny and would indeed be non regulation to him.By time my turn came for inspection 3 lads were outside for wearing underpants and the tawse was inevitable.He told me to bend and it was clear i had no underpants.saved i thought, but no chance i was sent to join the others.Each lad went in to the office and the whack of the tawse could be heard clearly,each lad coming out rubbing their smarting buttocks.I went in not sure what was to follow."Non regulation shorts boy ,far to shiny" Over i went and 3 hard whacks of the tawse over my shiny rump.It was far more painfull than i had before, he did swish the tawse with much more force than before.I`m sure he enjoyed himself.Needles to say my shiny satin shorts were not used for school again and no other lad dared to try theirs either.
