Did anyone else have to change into their PE kit before being caned ?

If you did something that merited caning, we were always made to report to the Head of Year immediately after school. Before we had to go to the gym changing rooms and change into our PE kit, then line up outside his office.

PE kit was just shorts, no shoes, socks, vest or pants, so often on the way home you would see 2 or 3 boys walking through the corridors, or waiting outside the school offices stripped to just shorts - you knew they were going to be caned.

Did this happen to anyone else ?

Yes last week 36 strokes of a Dragon Canes then an hours detention, and I still have the marks and a sore bum to prove it.

Am I right in thinking that the infamous Mrs Thomas of the Rodney School, Newark, sometimes used to make girls change into PE kit before caning them?

I've not heard that about Rodney School before, but I'd love to know if it were the case. You have to say that that headmistress does look frightening, I'm sacred myself by the look of her so God knows what it was like for a 14 year old girl.

Up to 12 we were regularly spanked by male teachers at the public school I attended.

This was 1n 1979 so not that long ago.

Usually trousers and pants down and across the teachers knee.
One elderdly teacher used a strap which was quite stingy as I recall.

Yes, at my school pupils were always called out from their gym classes to receive their punishment, gym shorts were navy blue and very thin cotton

It didn't happen in the school I went to but I remember back in 1976 reading a letter in one of the reactionary tabloid newspapers from someone supporting cp at the local school in which this was said to be the practice. The writer said boys were caned in front of the class by any teacher, girls in private by a female teacher only.

Yes at the approved school I was at we were caned in PE shorts and plimsolls only. I have recently found out
most approved schools caned in this way, so it was quite normal.

This was not a policy at my school, but I did know a boy who was unlucky enough to be sent for by the Headmaster during a gym period and had to go just in his gym kit. Our head was not an accurate caner and so some of the strokes landed on his bare thighs below his shorts.

One of the masters in our boarding house would sometimes order us to report to him for the slipper in PE shorts, although he usually waited until bedtime, when he sould slipper us in our pyjamas.

Yes canings were done more or less as you describe, after school, in PE kit, was tee shirts + shorts nothing underneath. Had to bend right over one of those stools like used in chemistry lab.

Caning with only PE kit will be very painful,because those thin shorts will not give any offender any protection.!

I took too long in the shower after playing rugby and I was told to come out at once, I put my towel around my waist and came out the games master stood there with his cane already "bend over boy" so I did "remove your towel" I did as I was told six strokes later brought me to tears as far as I know I was the only boy who have ever recived the cane bare bottomed
A few years after I left school I found out he was caught playing "spank my bottom" with some of the children and got 4 years in prison.

Depending upon the circumstances under which such a game is played it might be deemed a wholly unremarkable activity or a decidedly odd one.

No matter what the circumstances, it's hard to see why any game which involved nothing more than spanking should attract a custodial sentence.

Sorry to be repetitive - Where does it happen please? I usually choose to be in PE kit for punishment - but it would be amazing to visit somewhere where it was the rule!

While I feel sorry for you as the recipient I cannot help feel delighted that the sadistic and perverted so and so got jailed for messing with boys. I am a proponent of CP between consenting adults but to inflict pain on kids or to molest them is the lowest of the low and makes me feel physically ill.

I suggest that was the idea, to make as painful therefore memorable as possible.

As the original poster, I will try to answer some of the questions asked.

I went to a private boarding school (as a day boy for one year, then as a boarder) in the late 60’s. It was run very much using the services type approach, indeed a lot of the boys had fathers in the services. The school still exists, but the methods will have changed a lot.

Heavy emphasis was placed on sport and strict discipline. Like most schools of this type at the time, boys were expected to do exactly as they were told or face punishment, and discipline was enforced by additional pe/cross country sessions and ultimately caning.

The borders started every day with an early morning run (in just shorts and trainers), and indoor pe kit was always undertaken with bare feet and no shirts. I don’t think this was at all uncommon with the more “military” type of school, indeed it would have been more unusual for boys not to have to strip to the waist for the early morning run. Additionally the use of additional pe sessions or cross country runs as a punishment would have been almost universal, although maybe most schools would have carried out caning with the boy in normal clothes. Changing into shorts added impact to the punishment, made other boys aware of the punishment and also made it more painful as you just had shorts on and no underpants.
