Our Research Team have asked that I put out a request for further information about a girls’ private school in or near Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. The name of the school is at present unknown to them.

Between the years of 1948 and 1958 approximately, girls were caned on the bottom in front of the school. Those who had misbehaved would be awarded minus points and having accumulated a certain number, the miscreants would be called out to the front of the hall during assembly. They were caned whilst bending over a table.

The Team realise that it is unlikely that anyone will be able to supply any more information about this, and I have asked Carl and his Mats to delete this message if there are no responses thereto within a few weeks.

The school was Fantasia High, Stiffwilly Lane, Dreamsville.

I’m not immoral and I have no information, but I’m putting this thread at the top to give you five in a row and a bonus mark.

The Schools Handbook lists just two private girls schools in LeamingtonSpa in 1948.They were The Leamington High School for Girls,Beauchamp Hall and New College Preparatory School for Girls.

I found the following on the Net. Is this the school in question?

“I remember very vividly the drama of seeing a child receiving
corporal punishment in public. I went to a mixed preparatory
boarding school in the South of England in the 1950s which was
largely filled with the children of officers in the armed forces
serving abroad. Boys and girls were frequently spanked on their
bottoms and thighs by the teachers who generally used rubber soled
gym shoes to apply their punishments. The Headmaster invariably
administered discipline with a cane. On one occasion I can remember
an 11 year-old-girl in our class being given 8 strokes of the cane
by the Headmaster across her knickers in Assembly for stealing. I
have never forgotten the agony she endured nor the humiliation she
was subjected to subsequently when she was made to stand in front of
the class for the whole morning with her face to the wall and her
hands on her head.
I watched these events with considerable fascination. I
too had harboured an interest in corporal punishment from a very
early age. When I was 5 I recall pulling a chair away from a boy
just as he was about to sit on it. I knew that I would be caught by
the teacher and I knew that she would spank me. She did. I was
taken across her knee and, in front of the whole class, had my
knickers taken down and my bottom smacked. I enjoyed the experience
and memory of the event has stayed with me all my life.”

The story, like 99.999% of girly CP stories on net is the product of an over-active male imagination.

It never happened.

If I were to assume for a moment that the story is true, then there are major differences between the school referred to in the piece and that in which we are interested. The one thing that they do have in common is that they were ‘largely filled with the children of officers in the armed forces serving abroad.’

It may be worth extending your area of search to cover Kenilworth, not far from Leamington. This had a girl's approved school. I would guess this was in the public sector and probably run by Warwickshire County School. I believe it was the subject of a scandal only unburied many years after the event but details in the national press have been sketchy. However I doubt it would go as far back as the 50's and doesn't quite match the description of a private school with children of forces ataff.

Nobody who attended a school in Leamington Spa would ever think of referring to it as being in "the South of England".
