Severe Punishment in 2004April 28 2004 at 7:28 PM | Darwinian Man |
| The following appears on a notice board in the staff room of a secondary school in the Home Counties.
The Discipline Process
1. Ask the pupil to behave, warning him/her of the consequences if he/she choses to misbehave and give him/her a pink card. Tell him/her to keep the card on the desk in front of him/her. It will act as a visible reminder.
2.Tell the pupil that he/she must conform to the School’s Code of Conduct and give him/her a warning that he/she will be punished severely and his/her family will be contacted if he/she continues to misbehave. Give him/her a yellow card and penalise him/her with a detention.
3. If despite all these warnings he/she continues to misbehave then you will have to give him/her a red card. Fill in the details of what has happened on the red form (briefly) and print your name. Send a trustworthy pupil to whoever is on duty and he/she will come and take the pupil to extraction and the parents of the pupil will be contacted. Put the pupil concerned just outside the door.
4. The duty member of staff will be based in the extraction area which will be the curtained off area of the hall. Pupils will be brought there and will be expected to remain there until 3.45.
IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO MAKE SURE THAT THE PINK AND YELLOW CARDS ARE RETURNED TO YOU AT THE END OF THE LESSON.

| On the nature of insanity | April 29 2004, 8:00 AM |
Perceptions of reality can vary but when the perception becomes so extreme that it interferes with the ability to function insanity must be suspected. It is of specially concern when everyone else seems to be insane. Just perhaps it is oneself that has gone mad? In the present case I think not. | |
