Sent out of class

Thinking back to my secondary school days I recall that the headmaster used to patrol the school every hour or so and anyone that had been sent out of the class for missbehaviour was despatched to his office to be caned upon his return.
If he was away then the senior male teacher would do the rounds and either cane or slipper anyone standing outside the class.
He would ask the teacher concerned what they had done and would then administer punishment.
On one occasion a friend of mine argued that he had done nothing wrong ( which was true) and refused to hold out his hand. The student teacher was then told off by him for sending the boy outside without good reason and that she should understand the seriousness of sending pupils out of class.
I guess that made him a kind of fair guy.
As for the headmaster, well he was strict, a right bu**er and I wonder his patrols were well mean't or was he just a sadist? In either case he must have had little to do apart from caning.
The anticipation of being found outside the class or with luck not being found must have been frightening.
Anyone else have that kind of thing at school?

I never cease to be amazed by the stories of this nature, and why it was allowed to continue. Although it was not a practice used at any of my schools, I do wonder about the calibre of teacher's in British schools. Sending a pupil into the hallway makes me feel the teacher was weak in controlling his class and using his authority.

The other issue is the patroling of senior teacher's and Headmaster's specifically looking for students standing in hallways. They must have had some sort of a CP fetish to go around looking for boys to cane. And they must have had very little to do if they could afford the time to go stalking the hallways. Sounds like a waste of tax payers money, letting them get away with doing it.

I would be dreaming if I was to ask why teacher's were not assessed as to their ability, but after all, it was the sixties and what went on behind closed school doors stayed there. To me, these Heads and senior teacher's are nothing more than bullies. And paid bullies at that.

I say this because it comes across in your post that more times than not, "Punish first, ask questions later" was the practice.

Refusing to put your hand out was a rare thing at my school but it did happen, and after a while caught on like the Bell Bottom Pants craze. I know I have been in that position and the teacher's were unable to do anything about it. At least you were given the oportunity to convey your side of events to the Headmaster, who after listening to both sides of the story would simply send you back to class. No punishment was awarded.

Sending people out of class was a fairly rare event at my school. Most masters prefered to dispense discipline themselves in the classroom. Usually this involved inviting the boy causing a problem out to the front of the class where he had to bend over and take a few hard whacks on the seat of his trousers from the master's very large, heavy plimsoll. This had the benefit of teaching the young offender a much-needed lesson as well as deterring the rest of us from similar behaviour.

But I do remember one master, a weak teacher, totally ineffective at maintaining classroom discipline who, once an unruly class had almost drive him to tears, would pick on one boy and make him stand outside the classroom door. On one occsion the headmaster found the kid there, poked his head into the classroom to ask why this miserable boy had been sent out of class, and on hearing the reason took the boy back to his study for a good, sound caning.

Happy days.

I understand the dynamic: Do something the adult doesn't want you to do and feel the pain.

I bet however that the lesson you think got learned from it is a lot different than the lesson I think it actually taught.

Punished school boys in spanko fantasies often learn to be model boys in the future from a meeting with Mr. Plimsoll, are always grateful for the whackings they got, and think the Master who leaves bruises on their bums are among the very best Mr. Chips types. Reality is another story.

Some people have a real problem with separating fantasy from reality.

I'm no idealist about this. What did this "lesson" teach me?
1. Mr B. whacks bloody hard.
2. Mr B's plimsoll bloody hurts.
3. I don't like getting slippered by Mr B.
4. Mr B. is a bully.
5. I'd better not misbehave in class again if I don't want another of Mr B's slipperings.
6. If I ever get to be a prefect I'm going to be a mean bastard like Mr B.
7. It's not fair that girls don't get the slipper.
8. Thinking about getting slippered by Mr B. and girls getting slippered is getting me all excited.
9. Wonder if my girlfriend will let me spank her tonight?
10. I wish I could see Lotta N. getting the slipper from Mr B. on the seat of her navy blue knickers.

See? Didn't do me any harm at all.

Just as I suspected. Honest answers. Nice. Although I suspect #5 should actually read "I'd better not get caught misbehaving in class again if I don't want another of Mr. B's slipperings." Subtle but important difference, I think.

Oh no, not any harm at all.
I would have had fantasies of poisoning Mr. B.
