Choice

Did anyone experience a teacher giving you a choice between receiving corporal punishment or an alternative punishment (lines, detention, etc.)? If so which did you choose and why? What was the punishment you chose like and, in retrospect, do you regret the choice?

No Choice

Where i went there was no choice. It was decided that you would be punished either by CP or some other form of punishmnent.CP was used in 95% of cases.CP was dished out like confetti.I`m amazed when i think back on the brutality of those years.

Hand or bottom?

May 9 2006, 12:21 PM

In at least one Australian school, pupils were given a choice of being caned on their hands or on their bottoms. As Honorary Life Member and pornographer Halfpenny has written:

He was silent for a second and then he spoke quite forcefully.

"Do you want to be caned on the hand or on your bottom?"

I almost passed out when he asked me that question. The Principal was,
I suppose in his forties if I had to guess - old, but still young
enough to be quite attractive. He was a nice man too - quite a lot of
girls had crushes on him over my time at the school. I didn't but I
could understand what they saw in him.

What got me though was his using the word 'bottom'. It wasn't a word I
was used to hearing from a male. Backside - that seemed like a male
word to me. 'Bottom' just didn't - and when he said it, it seemed like
such a sexy word - an odd thing to say, but it's the only way I can
describe it. Not that he said it in any sexy way. It was said in an
entirely neutral, entirely matter of fact way, as if this was
naturally the entirely appropriate word to use. And I suppose it was.

I hadn't expected to be offered this choice. I'd never actually heard
of someone being caned on the hand at my school. I knew people were
caned on the bottom. And that is most definitely what I wanted.

"On my bottom, Sir." It was just as thrilling when I said the word -
but it was also, once again, frightening - because I knew it was a
closer step.

The school is Saint Fantasia's School for Fake Female Forgers and Fantasists, at which Halfpenny is Head Ladyboy.

I just love that bit from St Fantasia’s. Where can I get the rest of it?

The caning of girls was quite common in South African schools until quite recently. Although it was more common for girls to be caned on the hand it was not unusual for the punishment to be administered to the bottom. Sorry to disappoint you Lotta but this is a fact!

I recall chatting to two girls from South African Airways who had both been caned on the hand at school. One of them had apparently asked whether she could rather receive be caned on the bum and the teacher had refused – spoilsport!

It is stored in our archives and we have an agreement with the author that it will not be published in full on this forum.

Halfpenny, however, is quite happy to send copies to members and may be contacted at

In defence of Lotta, the post from Halfpenny seems to be talking about one Australian school. No mention of the "Rainbow Nation" in it! I know Lotta has somw wacky(sorry!) ideas, but I don't think Geography is one of her weak points!

Mind you, could that new appelation in itself actually be a description of the average bum after beating in RSA-now makes me wonder what you could achieve with the stalk of a Proteas??!!

In the second "incident" she talks about the girl who was being bullied not living with her mother but later in the story she says her mother had rung up the head.

There may be a good answer but it does not seem to gel

The reason for the apparent discrepancies in Halfpenny's stories is that they are all works of fiction.

More than that, they are quite obviously works of fiction.

Equally obviously, Halfpenny is a man pretending to be a woman.

Readers wishing to know how obvious it is that the stories are fictional and written by a man might like to imagine getting into bed and finding a fully-grown hippopotamus already asleep in there.

Now, as you lay in bed next to your strange companion, how obvious would it be that you weren't alone?

Well, it's that obvious.

I'm happy to try and address this seeing you are just politely expressing scepticism as opposed to ranting and raving about events you have no way of knowing anything about.

I can't explain the discrepancy you've noticed perfectly because I wasn't familiar with all the intimate details of my classmates lives. I knew bits and pieces from rumours and discussions. I know that 'Michelle's' parents were separated and that she lived with her father and her brothers, rather than with her mother, but I don't know all the details about that.

But I do know that just because a girl doesn't live with her mother doesn't mean that her mother isn't necessarily still involved in her life. Apparently Michelle's mother still took an interest in her daughter even if she wasn't the custodial parent. It seems to me it might have been better if she'd taken even more of an interest, but without knowing all the details that might not be very fair.

I'm sorry to lower the tone by responding to the original question. At the UK boarding school I attended in the 1960s, we were frequently given a choice of punishments by prefects. They weren't officially supposed to use CP (in its narrowest sense) so I think they felt that if we agreed to be slippered in preference to the alternatives - usually coporal punishments in a wider sense, like runs, cold baths, sweat sessions etc. I always chose the slipper!

There could of course have been many reasons why she lived with her Dad. It just seemed odd that her mother then phoned the school.

I can well imagine the school contacting her Dad and in the light of what had happen that he put her mother in the picture.

We cannot of course judge the home situation as we do not know all the facts but it no doubt made her how she was.

We can only help the incident brought the family closer together.

choice

I attended a small prep school in bournemouth. There was a system of good and black stars in operation and six black stars resulted in a visit to the headmaster, invariably for the cane. There was an element of choice in that caning sessions were held most days at morning break and it was up to the boy to decide on which day he would go along. however, the star charts were on public display, so there was considerable peer pressure !

I also recall that in the 90s when caning was ruled contrary to human rights legislation in europe, there was a suggestion that a way round it was to give parents the choice of opting their children out of receiving it. In the end parliament abolished it anyway...by a one vote majority, I recall !
