Rachel's Paddling - The Aftermath

Principal Paddlebutt

I am Principal Paddlebutt, and on August 8th 2005, I posted on this forum what I consider to be my masterpiece of School Corporal Punishment writing. An epic poem describing the severe paddling of a teenage girl by the Principal of an imaginary Christian reformatory boarding school, somewhere in the deep south of the USA, set in the 1930s. The poem is entitled "Rachel's Paddling". I have long been unhappy about the ending, which I feel was very bleak and cruel. I have therefore written a short story describing the events that followed immediately after the point at which we left Rachel in the final verse of the poem. To see the first part of the story, you will need to read the poem.

This is the final work of Principal Paddlebutt. You will not hear from me again.

Rachel’s Paddling – The Aftermath

The school nurse was called, and she, and the Principal’s secretary, gently lifted Rachel up from her bent position over the paddling bench, and walked her slowly (but stiffly) to her dormitory. There, they placed the severely paddled thirteen year old on her bed, and left her to reflect on her misdeeds and her punishment. There, on her bed she lay, sobbing and whimpering, with her bottom all a throbbing, for the rest of the morning.

Lunch time came, and the nurse returned, as Rachel had not appeared in the refectory for lunch. The nurse found Rachel still lying on her bed. Her face still bright red as a cherry and wet with tears, and her eyes all sore from crying, staring into nowhere as she lay. Not a sound she made but for the occasional whimpering sob and hick-up. The nurse sat on the bed beside her, and spoke in gentle tone… “come on, it’s all over now, a paddling’s not really as bad as all that!”. But Rachel just lay there, staring into nowhere. Her summer dress had become all creased and dishevelled, and had ridden up to reveal her soaked and stained panties, yet unchanged since she had wet them during her paddling three hours earlier, clinging to her sore, scarlet red bottom. The nurse continued in gentle calm voice… “Come on now Rachel, let’s get these wet panties changed, and get you washed and down for lunch. A growing girl like you needs her nourishment!”

Rachel remained silent and sullen, but meekly co-operated as the school nurse gently peeled down and removed her wet panties, took her to the bathroom and washed her, changed her into fresh clothes, and took her downstairs for lunch.

As she entered the refectory hall, the usual muted whispers and s******s could be heard from around the hall from the other girls, as was always the case on Punishment Day when those paddled that morning entered the hall for lunch. All the girls would watch out of the corner of their eyes to see how they sat down on the hard wooden refectory benches, and the grimaces on their faces as their sore bottoms made contact with the hard seats. Rachel sat down, and her sullen face revealed her discomfort, and she shifted and wriggled on her sore bottom throughout the saying of grace, and the following meal. She did manage to eat something, and began to feel a little better.

As lunch progressed, the throbbing and tingling sensations in her bottom intensified, and she could not help shifting and wriggling on her seat all the more, and she began to notice that these sensations, resulting from her first school paddling, were not altogether unpleasant, and they seemed to radiate out from her bottom to neighbouring areas, with fiery tinglings the likes of which she had never felt before. Her mind was in a strange confusion betwixt the shame, and pain, of her 10 swat paddling that morning, and wetting herself during it, and these curious fiery tinglings and throbbings, which were now driving her mad with sensations unknown to her before, but were somehow deliciously lustful and pleasurable. Her facial expressions, as she sat at the refectory table, constantly changed in accord with this confused state of mind, although she tried with all her strength to maintain a sullen look of “don’t care” on her face, as did all girls at the school, following a severe paddling on Punishment Day.

Epilogue

Rachel McSweeney continued her education at Paddlebutt School for the following 6 years, until she reached the age of 19. During that time she was to experience the Principal’s paddle many more times, and, like all girls at the school, she became so accustomed to it that she hardly gave it a second thought. She took her paddlings stoically, and even began to console herself with the thought of the sensations hereinbefore described, which she knew would follow the shame and the pain.

But, for Rachel, as for all the girls at the school, there was no feeling quite like that curious mixture of sudden fear and butterflies in the stomach, and a pounding heart, accompanied by an almost electric tingling in the buttocks and neighbouring parts, each and every time they heard their name called out in the Great Hall, followed by the words “You will report to the Principal's office on Friday at 10.00 AM!!!”

Auto Edit?

For some reason the system has edited the word s******s - I can't think why. The word is s******s, meaning muted laughter or giggling under the breath.

Racial slurs

Could it be that we are being protected from offensive racist words?

I recall a case of an American accademic being forced to resign after complaining about n*****dly" funding (= parsimonious, stingy, mean, given grudgingly). It was very clear from the context what he meant but he still lost is job.

Perhaps it would have helped if he'd spelt the word correctly?

I believe any word censor in the world will allow 'niggardly'.

The racial issue

July 29 2006, 1:20 PM

I know I said you would not hear from me again, and indeed there will be no more poems or stories, but I feel I must pick up on the topic which the forum’s auto edit, and subsequent comments have brought to light: -

The issue of racist words actually brings out an interesting aspect to this story, and this relates to the character of the “School Nurse” in the story. The institution in the story is a “Christian reformatory boarding school” for girls, in the USA’s deep south in the 1930s. This was a time of strict racial segregation, and this would have been an establishment exclusively for white “students” and no doubt the Principal, and all the teaching staff would also have been white. However, such an institution at that time would no doubt have had a number of black staff in lower status roles such as cleaning, caretaking etc.

The school “nurse” would probably have been a black woman, with little more than the status of a servant. She may well not have been formally qualified as a nurse, but would have been a mature woman who was employed (at relatively low wages) to generally attend to the girl’s welfare/health needs, including helping them with the usual bodily “issues” (excuse the pun) which affect all girls approaching or during early teen years. She no doubt would have been at the Principal’s beck and call to deal with other tasks, such as cleaning up the puddles on the floor of the his study, after a severe paddling during which the victim had wet herself, as happened in this story.

But the question arises, how could somebody who’s job it is to care for health and welfare, be so passively complicit with regard to the severe and brutal paddlings that went on at the school? I would offer two explanations:-

(1)Due to her low status, to speak a word against the school’s corporal punishment policy would have probably resulted in instant dismissal, without a good reference, which would hamper her chances of getting another job and,

(2)As a black woman from the deep south, she would herself have been raised
in a culture where corporal punishment - “a good whuppin” as I understand a belting or paddling was called in black culture, was the order of the day. She may herself have been conditioned into accepting severe spankings as quite normal, and part of life.

So, there you have a little social history lesson from the Principal. This really is my final word. Farewell.
