Did anyone here get whacked with a ruler? The sort I am thinking of is 12 inches long and 1 inch wide. I cannot find any references to it on this board. I imagine if used on bare legs it would sting quite a bit but probably did not have much effect on a trousered or even a knickered bottom.

Not that I myself got a whack from the ruler but a couple of our friends and classmates did.
We were in Grade 1????maybe even Grade 2???? and 1 of our friends Joyce had to lift her tartum pleated skirt up and expose the back of her legs and her bottom - panties and recieved 5 strokes all over that area of her body.
Boy did she jump and try to cover her bum from the other strokes of the ruler. And rub her bum also.
She did get the 5 strokes and 2 extra for putting her hands down there. And yes she was crying and her bum was sore.

School rulers have always been one of those underestimated implements, a 19inch ruler ¼ inch thick applied to the back of the legs, aimed high up as possible for max effect, excruciatingly painful.

Primary school used the 12inch as an alternative to smacking . One particular male teacher was not unknown to occasionally use the board ruler, 34 inches, on the backside of some small boys..

The pic of the board ruler was not collected as a souvenir, the other I acquired not so much as a souvenir, but before it was used for some serious teacher damage.

So Gentlemen!!!

One previous uncarefull owner, who seems mislaid it , Fair condition for its age, Used on serveral occassions, whacked several schoolgirls, whilst displaying navy knickers, sorry no in action shots,(Where's J's cousin) collectors item, genuine offers only.

Mr C of ??? my old Junior school in N London was a dab hand with the ruler, applying it to both boys and girls on the back of their legs. Someone actually wrote about him on FR.
Miss B of the same school once rulered a girls palms until the ruler broke.

Those who will rush forward to shower abuse and invective of the "Liar! Fantasist!" variety on the foregoing contributors are referred to footage from the third episode of the Australian TV mini-series 'Brides of Christ', of some 20 or so years ago which starred Brenda Fricker, Sandy Gore, Josephine Byrnes, et al in an Aussie convent boarding school. The footage is of a heavy ruler being applied vigorously by a nun to two pairs of girlish buttocks concealed by green gingham dresses. It is true that this was not an actual event but the RC educational community in Australia would hardly have let pass such a depiction of its disciplinary methods if such things were not relatively commonplace.

First years on their first day at my secondary school had to endure a machine gunning from the headmasters old army BREN gun, those that were killed had detention for the rest of the week and the wounded were merely caned by the butch gym mistress.

A thick heavy plastic ruler to the hand or calf, probably not used in your country but used in others really stings for a second or two. Enough to wipe away any smile. The big loud slap it makes has a good dramatic effect on the rest of the class.

Teachers at my primary school hit our hands with the flat side of a 12 inch ruler - a rather mild punishment.

My form teacher in my first year at secondary school hit our hands with the edge of a 12 inch ruler - the nearest thing to child abuse I ever experienced.
