The website of Chilton Cantelo mixed rural boarding school
in the West Country contains some very strange archival photos
at least i.m.h.o.
They date from the 1960s and early 1970s.
They depict in group photos boys and girls rather 6th Formers
all dressed in black leather outfits!On a daily basis.
Black Mini skirts,Black leather jeans.
They appear time and again in different years and times.
There is even a traditional one with the whole form sitting facing the camera on bleachers teachers and all and the girls are naerly all in 16"black leather
mini skirts and boots!!!!
Another depicts a gaggle of girls arms around each other all in black leather.
This must surely be one of the wierdest school uniforms ever?
The CCF boys look odd too?
One wonders what was the rationale behind this "craze"?Perhaps a local leather works supplied "the gear"?????

which is stuffed full of pictures confirming the observation made by Bozo. However, the rather fetching leather look does seem to disappear some time in the 1980's - there are so many pictures my poor old dial up link won't permit me to identify exactly when.
